As my mama once told me: I’m not conceited, I’m convinced.
This is advice I’ll be keeping with me for the rest of my life, but it especially rings true in my line of work because self-promotion is vital. No one’s gonna know who I am as a creative if I don’t open my mouth and talk. On the pie chart of my writing career, being a diva makes up a healthy chunk of it. In order to get my work noticed, make sales, and book gigs, you gotta talk the talk so folks give you the chance to walk that walk.

YEP! I’m excited to be going back, now with more My Hero Academia fangirlisms lol!
To me Bakugou tops, but he’s not opposed to being on the bottom, it just has to be with the right person/he has to be in the right mood. Also, his partner is gonna have to understand, quote (from my fic):
Bottom for Bakugou doesn’t mean you get to push me around, it means you’re fucking me because I told you to and I’m still calling the shots, got it?
I honestly skimmed over this really really clever moment when I first read the manga, but the recent anime episode drew my attention to it. At first glance the first four panels seem like their purpose is to show that it’s late, that Deku and Bakugou are breaking the rules, and that the rest of the class is sound asleep. But that could have easily been achieved with just the bottom panel, when Deku explicitly states that they shouldn’t be outside at this time. Horikoshi didn’t need to draw their classmates sleeping, so why did he? That’s when I realized that the top four panels are showing the people (sans Deku) who went to rescue Bakugou from the League of Villains.
What’s the significance of this?
There is a clear juxtaposition here. Kirishima, Yaoyorozu, Todoroki, and Iida are all shown in their rooms, sleeping unbothered. The scene immediately cuts to Deku following Bakugou to Ground Beta. Bakugou then a.) shares that he knows how Deku received his quirk, b.) challenges him to a fight, and c.) confesses his feelings of guilt and inadequacy regarding All Might’s retirement.
Ground Beta is an important setting for this arc, because it is where Bakugou fought and lost to Deku, subsequently realizing that he is no longer the figurative big fish in a small pond. He brought Deku to a place of insecurity in order to express those insecurities, and there is a reason that he ended up communicating them to Deku and not anyone else. Even those who had a large role in his rescue.
This visual contrast between Deku (in action, following Bakugou) and the rest of the Bakugou Rescue Squad (inactive, asleep) emphasizes that it does have to be Deku that Bakugou vents his feelings to, at least in that moment. Deku (narrating) says as much:
“Because right now, the only person who can receive Kacchan’s feelings is me.”
As an author my storytelling muses are so well fed by this. These small details are amazing!
The “let them be kids” like doesn’t work for bnha because they want to be heroes.
They chose this. I’m pretty sure putting yourself in danger for others is in the job description
Like, they signed themselves up for this. They’re free to bail anytime they want. No one is forcing them
Yes they’re kids but they’re not kids who need protection
They’re kids who want to protect others
I have to fully and respectfully, with only the intent here of sharing my thoughts, disagree without exception.
These kids are indeed kids. Their brains are, scientifically, underdeveloped as 14,15,16 year olds. This is fact. They cannot in any way, shape, or form comprehend the pure violence, death, blood, and personal sacrifice they will have to put into this endeavor. They literally cannot and have no way of understanding this.
Their elders, teachers, Pro-Heroes do, because they’re adults and they know what’s coming. But their world needs Heroes, and the society has glamorized the world of being a Pro-Hero. It’s so easy for a child who is literally four to be told what a great hero they will be, and for them to think that’s all there is to this life.
They may have signed themselves up for this, but they certainly aren’t ‘free to bail’ in the constraints of their minds, and the way that society has nurtured and shaped them. Teenagers are gung-ho and sign up for war. Doesn’t mean their upcoming, inevitable trauma is deserved and necessary and they should have seen it coming.
They are absolutely kids who need protection. The scene where Bakugou is finally saved from the villains and All Might speaks to him of how difficult it was to be brave? Bakugou is an inch away from bursting into tears. He is a child. He was a child who needed protection from experts, from adults - none of which he is. To throw an untrained fifteen year old in the world and say, “If you die it’s your fault for signing up for this” is something I must wholly disagree with.
They’re kids who want to protect others. And what we’ve seen with Izuku’s self destructive martyr-complex tendencies: these children have no idea how to protect themselves, let alone others. They barely just passed their provisional license exam.
Let the children have moments of childhood. Don’t be blackhearted and stingy because of the profression they have chosen. Their lives are a combination of nature and nurture. In the 50′s, people were raring to go to war, to fight the good fight, to protect their people. Does it mean they deserved to come home with PTSD and missing limbs, because they were sixteen year olds and should have known? No.
This isn’t war, but it’s battle. It’s bloodshed. Let them have their moments. Let them be protected by those who know better than them. Let them have good memories to remind them that this world isn’t just their fucking profession - a profession they haven’t even yet grown into.
Let them be kids DOES work in the world of BNHA, because they’re bound to have so very little of that in their lives. Cherish it, encourage it.
This is one of the things I love about BNHA. They may want to be heroes but the adults still remember they’re children. Izuku running off to sacrifice himself like a hero would. No. Aizawa won’t have that. Villains attacking the school? Stand back, children, this is serious. And you can tell he regrets them going through that when he’s talking during the sports festival. “Class 1-A has been through a lot.” They weren’t supposed to face that. Not yet. Because they’re children.
When Stain showed up they got in trouble for jumping in. When Bakugou got kidnapped they got scolded for going after him, and even the kids who didn’t go got reprimanded for not saying anything. They’re training to be heroes but they are still seen as children.
Just because you have a lofty goal doesn’t mean you revoke your childhood. If anything, you’re encouraged to enjoy it while you can. Unlike some series where kids turn to warriors and are mocked for wanting to relax (Sailor Moon), this series has the adults constantly telling the kids to take their time. Like yes, train, but stay in your lane. You aren’t a hero yet, more importantly, you aren’t an adult yet.
Bakugou: I don’t give a single fuck about shitty Deku!
Stranger: Are you talking about that weakass greenhaired loser from the Sport Festival?
Bakugou: LISTEN YOU FUCKING ASSWIPE. I DO NOT WANT TO HEAR YOU SAY ONE MORE BAD WORD ABOUT SHITTY DEKU AGAIN OR I SWEAR TO GOD THAT I WILL DESTROY YOU AND NEVER THEY WILL NEVER FIND THE BODY. DO YOU UNDERSTAND?!
Stranger: Y-yes!!
Kirishima: Yep, Bakugou way show everyone how much you “don’t give a single fuck” about Midoriya. I’m totally convinced.
DEKU: Aw Kacchan defended me!
BAKUGOU: I DID NO SUCH THING!
STRANGER: Ugh why do you put up with someone so hostile? He’s such an angry little bitch
DEKU: … excuse me? We’re you just saying something negative about Katsuki “Kacchan” Bakugou in my presence? I certainly hope not. I’d hate to have to hurt a misguided civilian.
STRANGER: I’m sorry what?
DEKU, smiling: I’ve broken my own bones for this man, breaking you is nothing to me
