Anonymous asked: You know what. Just because thin people aren't always put down doesn't mean we don't have to put up with shit. Every single day I'm told " you need to eat more. You look disgustingly thin. No one wants a stick" when tbh I eat more then the average person but I can't put on weight. So fuck off about fat people being the only ones who ever get put down. Fuck. Off.

princepuma:

like I said in the post I made that you clearly chose to skim through, judgement doesn’t only extend to fat people. Skinny shaming exists, and its an incredibly demeaning and horrible thing and i’m sorry you have to experience it.

But like I also said in the post you chose not to read all the way, skinny shaming is NOT the same as fat shaming. Because fat shaming doesn’t JUST refer to telling someone they need to lose weight or judging their appearance. It also extends to every single media outlet telling you your ugly, ever magazine cover telling you to lose 5, 10, 20, 30, 100 lbs because it’s the only way you’ll matter. It’s every person looking at you strange when you try to buy clothes, it’s every single store you walk in to only carrying sizes 0-6 because “skinny” sizes are deemed average.

So no, fat people aren’t the only ones who are put down. But again, that’s not that I said. What i’m telling YOU is to learn the difference between skinny people being told they need to eat a sandwich and fat people being told they need to stop fucking existing for their weight.

Someone on my Facebook page made this same point when I shared an article that went into skinny shaming and fat shaming.  She said something about how she’s been both – skinny and fat – and how yes, skinny shaming exists.  She was called “string bean” and told all sorts of things. It’s true that skinny people are told to eat a sandwich, are called “skinny bitches” and told to gain some weight.

But not too much because then you’d get fat.  Fat is always the major negative.

And that’s the point she made, because when she was fat she was called things like “land whale.”  There’s a difference between “gain some weight” and “eat a bunch of cheeseburgers and die,” “ewww” “gross” “disgusting” “lazy” “good for nothing” and the assumptions made about fat people to the point of people assuming you just can’t, and don’t, do anything.

Not to mention the whole “glorifying obesity” notion, you know, because when I go out and do anything it’s glorifying an unhealthy lifestyle because I’m fat.  I post pictures of my cosplay where I’m smiling and happy because I like the cosplay, but because I’m fat and smiling I’m promoting a lifestyle that’ll lead everyone to a gross, fatty death.  I mean just the other day I made a meme that got shared that essentially said to not let the negatives get you down, and someone responded with, “I agree but I hope it isn’t used as an excuse for fat people to be lazy.”

And that’s the difference.

Skinny shaming is terrible.  Period.  However, there is a difference between “gain some weight” and “die fatty.”  By acknowledging that we’re not saying no one bashes skinny people, we’re just talking about the terrible facts in regards to fat shaming.  We’re not telling skinny people to not discuss their experiences, if anything, we want body shaming to not exist at all for anyone.  By talking about our experiences and the differences between them we’re showing how unfair this all is.  A fat person is told to be skinny, a skinny person is told to gain weight.  A fat person is told that skinny is the thing to be and yet we can see that skinny people get crap, too.  So the overall message in the bottle is to be happy with yourself, period, because you’re going to get crapped on no matter what.

So stop thinking that we’re against you somehow.  There’s a difference, but that doesn’t mean we don’t care.
