where does this take place between the first and second season
Second season is not canon.
Book of Circus takes place after the end of S1 and continues to follow along with the manga.
Yeah second season isn’t canon. The Circus Arc starts like, after the curry arc, I think (is that considered an arc?) You know when they had the curry competition (minus the monster/zombie things that were in the anime, if I remember right that didn’t happen it was just straight up curry). So not even the ending of first season is canon (especially since the manga is still going).
So… have fun re-feeling things for the series.

Rin and Nitori’s relationship this season is so important. It shows not only that Rin truly is a gentle hearted person, who just acts out when he’s upset but means well, but it also shows his genuine care for his kohai. He is supportive and teasing with Nitori, and you can see how much happier Nitori is now that Rin is treating him this way. It’s creating an overall great atmosphere on the team, and I think their relationship is a lot of what is helping Rin build his captain skills.
All of this :) When Nitori was watching the race like, “He’s our captain,” I was like, “Yes, yes he is!"
