You know it’s kind of funny, actually.  Growing up, I absolutely hated dresses and make up.  Now I feel odd if I’m not getting up early in the morning and doing make up while everyone else is sleeping, or wearing a giant ballgown of some sort at a convention and trying to figure out how to maneuver around in a hoop skirt :)

I told him I didn’t understand what he meant because we’re a coffee shop, and he was like “oh it’s a joke” and I said I “didn’t get it” and he went “it’s funny because you’re a woman working in a kitchen”

And I just stared at him until he got how stupid he sounded

let them feel their ignorance burn into their souls

I actually heard some great advice at a panel at ACEN this year, something about when people say something that’s terrible, respond in this way, in a, “Oh, I don’t get it,” sort of way, you know?  Because then they have to explain what they mean, and the look on their face when they have to explain their sexist/racist/homophobic/whatever “joke” is priceless.
