*incoherent noises* How sexy are these guys? I commissioned the lovely ladies of Grave Impressions to do art of Lukis and Aaron, the men of my short story, “Press START to Play.” I wanted to have art that really related to the story so I could have post cards for it at conventions and stuff. I’m planning on doing the same thing for my book, the details are getting worked out right now.

I got a sketch preview today and it’s coming together nicely! Have you read the story yet? You can find it on Dreamspinner Press, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and other online outlets. I can’t wait to see the finished product!

Here are links to the story:

27 and 46!

27.  First thing you notice in a guy/girl.

I’m a really big fan of a person’s eyes and smile, and I also notice a girl’s hair or what she’s wearing (like “cute boots” or “pretty skirt” and things like that).  I also have this habit of linking people to anime characters/video game characters/characters from my stories, especially characters from my stories, like, “OMG that’s totally Haven,” or, “Shit that’s Avery, exactly what I pictured,” and things like that (Avery is in a story yet to be published, Haven is from Hunters).

46.  How can I win your heart?

In a Mortal Kombat battle.

No seriously if you offer a night of video games and pizza I’m yours, especially if it’s a game I’ve been excited about for a while.

Meet Deric Lostutter, a 26-year-old cybersecurity consultant who also goes by the moniker “KYAnonymous.” Lostutter obtained and published tweets and Instagram photos in which members of the Steubenville High School football team joked about an incident in which a 16-year-old girl was raped.

Lostutter’s actions inspired a group of people to take justice into their own hands. A hacker called “Bobcat” vandalized the Facebook page of the Steubenville football team. Other hackers took similar action.

It’s unclear if Lostutter participated in any hacking shenanigans, but if he’s indicted and found guilty of any, he faces 10 years in jail. By comparison, the Steubenville rapists received one- and two-year sentences each.

That’s not right :/

It scares me that this is the world we live in.  Thanks for being a hero, good sir, your reward is to be punished longer than the culprits.  How is that logical at all?!

35.  Favorite type of fruit pie.

Hmmmm are you asking for possible yummy dessert reasons?  Hmmmmm?  I’d say apple  :)  There’s also a pie at Baker’s Square that I really, really like, it’s “French Apple Cream Cheese,” sooooo good!

37.  Do you believe in ghosts?

Hell.  Yes.  I believe in ghosts and spirits and all that.  Although, I have a sort of sappy reason as to why.  When we were dating, there were two dreams we each had about my brother.  In my dream, he told me to tell my mom about snowtigra.  This was strange because I have NEVER had a dream about my brother, like… ever.  In fact that might be the only dream I’ve had.  She also had a dream about him, where she was at a pool and there was a little girl in the water.  He walked up to her and asked her to take care of the little girl and she said, “Sure.”  The little girl was me.  And, at the time, she hadn’t seen a picture of my brother at all.

So yeah, I believe.

38.  Ever have a deja-vu feeling?

Yep.  It’s really annoying >.<

47.  What makes a relationship great?

There are a lot of things that make a relationship great, so I’m going to try and list the things that make our relationship great.  Keep in mind, too, that not only did we start long distance, we started online, but the reason it worked is because:

1.  We have things in common.  Not EVERYTHING, but enough things to click with.  I mean no, we don’t watch every anime/movie/whatever together, because there are things she likes that I don’t.  She loves documentaries and horror.  Horror will genuinely scare me if done right, so I tend to avoid it unless with a bunch of people, or at someone else’s house.  Also, I definitely play video games more, but she likes them enough.  We also have love for art and crafting, and have somehow made this into a business.  Same with writing.  She’s a great, great muse to have, and we’re both creative people who can come together about characters and plot and stuff.

2.  We make time for each other.  Even if a couple isn’t into the same thing, it’s possible to find something in common.  Like, she’ll watch Master Chef with me.  I’ve watched Taboo with her.  This is even with her not liking reality TV too much and me not liking documentaries too much.  But both shows have at least something interesting for the other person to hold onto.  Same with movies and anime and video games.  Like Injustice?  She likes DC enough to watch me play.  RPGs she’ll watch too because they have a story.  But me trying to beat the extra levels in Mario?  She doesn’t need to be there for that, because she’s kinda, “Meh.”  And she knows what genres I like for anime, so she can usually find a series I’d really like.  Recent one being Madoka Magica.  At the same time, she knows what series she can start without me, ones where I’m like, “Meh,” or ones I’ve tried and was like, “… no that’s o.k.”

3.  Being there no matter what.  This includes the bad.  She has been so understanding about absolutely everything.  There have been times where I’ve had no money to contribute anything, but she somehow managed to take care of everything.  This happened when I first moved up here, and when I started at GameStop because I worked like no shifts, and when I got fired from GameStop.  We’ve got a good system for when the temp job ends for that month and a half, but at first?  It was a struggle.  But she did overtime and was supportive of me.  Now that the writing is coming together, the good tides are coming in, but I’ll never forget how she was there for the bad.  And that’s what it’s about.  It’s not always going to be happy and fun.

However, when the bad happens, I think it’s important to do something happy and fun.  We didn’t have all of the money in the world and I was quite stressed about job stuff and rejection letters and everything, but she’d take me out for ice cream.  Ice cream from McDonalds is $1.  She’d take me out for ice cream and drive around and we’d talk.  It’s about finding the small things that make you happy, and having a person who understands that.  She’s been patient during this writing dream, because it is NOT the easiest thing in the world to do despite what people may tell you.  And she’d keep me motivated and encourage me, and deal with me being in a shitty mood and kinda snappy.  It’s about understanding one another and being there :)

21, 28, 36, 44! c:

21.  Skipped doing homework to play a video game?

I was a real geek in school.  In high school I always got homework and stuff done before gaming.  I was one of those kids who worked better with the T.V. on, and my parents understood that, so like Sailor Moon would be in the background while I did Algebra.  In college, I would play video games when I could, but I mostly wrote fanfiction.  Which, considering my major and current career path, writing fanfiction was like doing extra homework to me.  It’s how I would practice writing outside of class ^^

28.  Do you sing in the shower?

When my partner isn’t home, lol, I do sometimes.  I’m more likely to do it in the car.  Bad Japanese sing-a-long times!

36.  Occupations you wanted to be as a kid.

Writer.  Seriously, that’s what I wanted to be  :)

44.  Can you curl your tongue?

Uh… half assedly?

You get home from a long day at work and turn on the TV. It’s been a long week, so you think to yourself- maybe i’ll take the family to a movie on Saturday. Maybe we’ll even go on a vacation soon! We could visit museums and go to plays and see all sorts of fun attractions.

When you turned the TV on, nothing happened. There are no actors to entertain you.
When you went to the movie theater, nothing was showing. There were no advertisements to tell you that anything was showing, so you went to the theater to find out. Nothing playing. There is no one to film and create movies for you. Well at least your vacation will be fun, right? Not like there will be any plays to see and there won’t be anything in the art museums.
Well at least you have the shack you are living in that you made out of cardboard and sheets.

Not like you could find an architect to build you a house with all the money you’re making as an engineer.

bless

THE FUCK DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME

THERE WOULD BE NO ROAD SIGNS OR INFORMATIONAL BROCHURES

THERE WOULD BE NO GODDAMN KEYS ON YOUR FUCKING LAPTOP

I just sent this tweet to NBC.

@NBCNews If these majors are so useless, then who designed the graphic used to announce this on your show?

This.  All of this.  I am so tired of people thinking that creative fields are a waste of time.  While we’re at it, I’m also tired of people thinking that said fields are “easy.”

Actually, as I’m writing this I realize that this is a huge contradiction.  Going into the field, we’re told it’s “easy” and “simple” because “all you have to do is draw/write/act/whatever.”  Then, when we get out of the school it’s reports like this.  Fine.  Now, let’s say you actually make it in your field.  Then it’s, “So and so gets paid all this money just to do this thing.”  By definition of this report calling it useless, you’d think it’d be great to see it proven wrong, like, “Hey guess what I made it as an entertainer/writer/artist/ect.”  But no.  Then people get mad if you make “too much money” because “all you do is this.”

There is no “all you do” to a creative field.  It’s hard.  It’s hard as hell.  The hardest thing you can do is try and keep someone entertained.  The hardest thing you can do is make someone feel the emotions you want them to feel in certain situations.  Especially for fictional characters because then there’s this idea of, “Are you really upset over this fictional character dying,” and things like that.

People need to stop taking these things for granted.

Randomly, how is “Architecture” even on this list?  Who do you think made the studio you’re sitting in giving this report right now?  And what a slap in the face this is to the camera crew while they’re filming this.

So much, all of this.  Artists work hard and damnit, people need to realize that.  It’s hard work and it’s even harder to communicate to people every piece that goes into it.  It’s an area with no boundaries, but that means that classes can’t show you how to do it, people can’t teach you, all they can do is show you how to use the tools and HOPE that you find the creativity in yourself to make them sing.  I mean seriously, really stop and consider the movement from some lead on a pencil to the building, sketch, play or story that you have in front of you.  That is some SERIOUS transformation shit!  It’s not useless, it’s fucking hard!

I see the list above and I bet I know why those are at the top.  Money.  Those five jobs are probably there because it’s really hard to make money in them, so they’re deemed useless.  Art, in all its forms, isn’t useless.  It’s a job and a craft, yes, but for those who are truly in it, it’s a  NEED.  You need to sit down and write.  You need to sit down and sew.  You NEED to make things.  Sure, no one might ever pay attention to it, but it’s still a need and you still do it.  When we mention ‘muses’ that’s what they are, that little voice in the back of your head that whispers at you to sketch a picture or write a story.  Even if no one ever reads it, you still have to write it.  Artists give into that voice and wrap a tight grip around the thought that maybe, somewhere, someone will notice and like this.  Because that’s all you have.

I submit a new name for this.  Instead of “Top 5 ‘Useless’ Majors” how about the “Top 5 Majors That Were Too Scary to Pursue”  because they’re damn hard and if you make it, that’s fantastic.  But only the people in those majors can tell you exactly how much WORK it actually is.  It’s emotionally draining, it will suck the life out of you, but we keep going because we need to, because we believe there is something inside us that we can create that’s worth sharing.

I choose to see this as a challenge.  I’m an artist and I’m not useless.  And no matter what you say, I have this amazing feeling that my life, full of all the ups and downs and low payments, long nights and low reward are so much more fulfilling then the digits on my paycheck and the worth of my house and the number of cars in my driveway.  My harddrive full of half finished projects and my brain full of blooming ideas is worth so much more.

And you’re welcome, because you’re damn lucky that I’m bearing my soul to you.  You’re damn lucky that any of us dare to share what we create.
