I was talking to someone on Facebook about this whole notion of us “making it about race” and people “tired of hearing about it” and like… I’ll stop talking about it when it stops being a thing, you know?  Because, truthfully, I DO want to stop talking about it, I want it to stop being an issue. Do people really think that black people really, truly, honestly want to constantly deal with racism?  Cuz I don’t know about you but I’d much rather live my life peacefully.  But I can’t, because shit like this keeps happening, and even worse, when it does happen we keep being told “it’s nothing.”  

And what kills me is so many people want equality, so many people wish that we were equal and want to know what they can do to help.  And here we are, giving the answers, and we keep being ignored because “it’s not about race” or even “all lives matter” as if trying to tell someone that they matter after a tragedy means we’re excluding people.  We have to tell black people that they matter because people keep telling them that they don’t, even after death they’re “thugs” in the eyes of the world.  That is why “black lives matter.”

Why do we keep talking about it?  Because you keep ignoring it.  Maybe if you start speaking with us changes can be made for the better and the conversations can come to an end.  Until then, it’s going to keep being brought up.
