I think the really, really sad thing about all of this is the comments I’ve seen on this, comments like, “I thought this would be the one,” as in, people hoping that this would be one time that justice is served. It’s sad to me because that’s what black lives have become now. We’re used to losing them, it’s another name on an ongoing list, it’s not even a surprise anymore. So now we’re hoping with each case that this would be “the one,” the one where justice will be served, and it never is, and now people are at a loss for words. Hopefully this will show what we’ve been trying to point out all this time, for years and years, before we were adults and back when our parents were children, our grandparents struggling to deal with the kind of racism that they hoped wouldn’t exist today but, in reality, still does.
