Oh man some poor fool thinks they know psychology

Lmao ok I study this shit too bro; I’m a psych major with a degree and I take dozens of psych classes constantly and guess tf what? Bakudeku is not abusive! Redundant by now, I know; but maybe you should study human behavior a little harder before you go off preaching like your personal misinterpretation of bakudeku is true and then using one psych class to back it up. Holy CRAP.

I just talked about this yesterday too lmao. Damn, I’m about to have a field day.

Fiction can affect reality, sure. But Psychology is complex, and if you’re not going to dissect every single aspect of Bakugou’s psychological being correctly, Anti, then your opinion isn’t needed. We didn’t ask for it anyway.

Just because you want bakudeku to be abusive (especially to validate your own ships) doesn’t mean your opinion is true. The facts still remain whether you like it or not: The whole series is about their growth together. Bakudeku is about good change, development, and forgiveness. Like, damn, even All Might said it:

I can’t stand when people take like one day of psych class and then claim to be SO WOKE and suddenly they think they know everything about anything when they’re actually clueless and lacking analytical skills. I’m gonna break down a couple things for you before you hurt yourself, Anti.

1.) Psychological trauma is an ongoing issue that doesn’t need constant abuse to stay alive. Psychological abuse is constant, which means it needs to be continuous in order to be classified as such. However, Bakugou does not constantly torment Deku. Deku himself confirmed that for us in chapter 3:

image

Antis like to argue that Deku has psychological trauma from Bakugou’s bullying back in middle school, but from what I have observed in Deku, I can safely say that Deku is not traumatized, especially to the degree ya’ll make him out to be. If he was THAT fucked up over it, then Deku would have triggers and be extremely unable to interact with Bakugou at all. But, he is confident with Bakugou and has stood up to him many times. He isn’t afraid to interact with him or talk to him. Deku continues to chase after him and try to be a part of him because he admires the fuck out of him. He may be cautious sometimes and be easily flustered, but he’s like that with everyone.

2.) Does Deku hate Bakugou? Hell no. Did Bakugou’s bullying prevent Deku from chasing his dreams? Hell no. Does he wish harm upon Bakugou? FUCK NO. He would rather break his body into a pile of shattered bones and mush than see his Kacchan get hurt (and that’s canon). And, you know, when it comes down to it, Bakugou hasn’t let any harm happen to Deku either. He has protected Deku from Kurugiri and All Might before. That’s just one example. So, Idk why antis swear up and down that they hate each other.

Would it have been an unhealthy relationship during middle school? Probably. But we don’t tend to ship them as middle schoolers. Would it be unhealthy if they were dating right now in canon? Most likely not because the older they get, the more healthy they become. But, from what I’ve seen, most bkdk shippers ship them in the near future.

3.) Keep in mind that the entire story of My Hero Academia is being told by a futuristic Deku - and he still refers to Bakugou as “Kacchan” and whether that’s because Bakugou’s hero name is Kacchan doesn’t matter because Deku still speaks very highly of him regardless. Also keep in mind that Deku says he is a #1 hero now, but that doesn’t mean Bakugou isn’t a #1 hero BY HIS SIDE now, too. There are a lot of surprises in store for us with these two, so you can’t sit here and say that BakuDeku’s current relationship will never improve because it already has and it’s continuing to do so! BakuDeku would not be an abusive relationship, especially after how much the two of them have grown together so far. And they only get better! The improvements are right there, so stop being so black and white about this shit.

4.) Bakugou Katsuki is a complex character alone, much less with Izuku. Since you think he’s a horrible person, you obviously haven’t even began to psychologically dissect him.

His personality has a lot to do with development psychology. We still don’t know too entirely much about how exactly he was raised, but we do know that he was raised by a hardass woman whom his whole personality reflects off of. We know that Bakugou was raised to hide his weaknesses, as are most young men. Not saying that’s okay, but the gimmicks of your early childhood greatly influence who you become as a person. Bakugou has a hard time venting his feelings without being a little obnoxious about it because he’s used to being loud and proud and hiding his weaknesses - so of course he’d bottle up his emotions until they explode out of him and he’s yelling and crying about it, because he doesn’t know any other way to do it yet!

If you don’t understand that, then you really DO need to pay more attention in your little psych class. Right now, Bakugou is still a growing young man, but he is not running in place. He is improving and he has shown that he has a soft side as well as very high intelligence, manners, social skills, and knowing exactly when and where to act appropriately and maturely. He isn’t a loose canon. That info right there is more than enough to analyze, but there’s still so much more to Bakugou than what we were shown in episode one, which is where you antis seem to get stuck in forever. HE IS NOT AN ABUSER.

Here’s an even better bust to your balls.

5.) While I’m at this, I might as well go big or go home, right? A lot of antis like to say that Bakugou bullied Deku for a decade or some shit, but the author has not clarified that and he has only ever labeled Bakugou as Deku’s childhood friend - not an enemy or a bully. The idea that Bakugou bullied him for a decade is a fanon theory that antis made. I can see where they got the idea, but as of right now, it is not a proven fact. Again, fanon and canon - learn how to differentiate.

6.) Antis like to validate their toxicity toward bakudeku shippers by playing the “I was bullied/abused” card. Bitch, so was I. That excuse is getting real old - you can’t use it forever. Not all people who have experienced abuse/bullying see BakuDeku as abusive. You went through some shit? Okay, and I’m sorry about that. You don’t forgive your tormentors? That’s perfectly fine! That’s you. But, is that Izuku? Does he constantly marinate in his past and think negatively about Bakugou? NO. Stop forcing yourself into Deku’s character - HE IS NOT YOU.

7.) Also, antis like to use that one-liner from chapter one in all of their 2 fucking arguments, but it is so invalid at this point because of the progression that has happened since then. I talked about this before anyway.

8.) I heard that this dweeb also said that Ki//ri//ba//ku is okay. Ha! I can explain why that is so damn greasy, but that subject would need its own post. For now, just read the psych post I already made. That’s enough of a response to the ridiculousness of antis shipping their oh-so-abusive Bakugou with other people. If ya’ll think he’s so horrible, then at least stay consistent with his ships.

Conclusion: Get out of the bkdk tag and keep your toxic opinions to yourself.

I usually don’t make “psychology” posts like this too often because I don’t want to sound pretentious, but when your ignorant ass comes trampling in here with your nasty feet on my fucking career field that I put my blood, sweat, and tears into every fucking day, you deserve to be shut down.

I THANK GOD FOR YOUR EXISTENCE 👏👏👏

I’d just like to add that “Ever since that day, Kacchan never tormented me again” is a mistranslation

image

This is the original wording, which is literally translated as “Since that day, Kacchan did not continue to do anything to me.” There’s no mention of tormenting at all.

HELL YEAH THAT’S EVEN BETTER! ❤️

Thank you for the good addition, fam!

Phew! @dekubunny did the damn thing! I wanna add some points as a newbie fan and all around veteran of ships and things like that:

1. BNHA takes place in a society where most of the population is extraordinary. At a young age, Bakugou was told that he’d be great. Not to say that his quirk isn’t awesome (because it is), but imagine being 4 years old and being told you were basically set for life because of an inherit ability you have. You haven’t even done anything with it, good or bad, it’s just there, and your friends, your teachers, everyone says, “You’re amazing.” While we’d like to think that it wouldn’t get to our heads, let’s be real. Some of us would think we’re the shit, and keep thinking we’re the shit for the next decade. For an entire decade no one has sat down and told Bakugou that there’s more to greatness than just having a cool quirk. Even in the first episode, he’s jumping on the desk, telling Deku he’s useless WHILE THERE IS A TEACHER PRESENT and the teacher doesn’t try and stop him. The first time we see an authority figure stop him is at UA with Aizawa stopping him from charging at Deku, so if we assume that that’s the first time that’s happened… that’s a decade of doing whatever the hell you want with no one stopping you. And you know, honestly, there’s something kinda admirable about running loose like that AND STILL WANTING TO BE A HERO. No matter how many times people tell him he’s “acting like a villain” he STILL wants to do good (similar to Shinso, which, speaking of other characters…)

2. He’s not the only cocky quirk user in the series, he’s just loud about it, but there are plenty of students (and even pro-heroes) who have similar dispositions (or worse), but since their quirks are so great they get showered with praise. That’s basically the world they live in. There’s no real nuance, just hollow praise because, “Wow that’s cool!” Bakugou is learning as he goes, but he is learning really late in life (high school). He should’ve been had a talk about there being more to a hero than quirks, but they waited until he went to the best hero school around… which has had some crazy ups and downs. Speaking of:

3. Can we talk about psychological trauma? Because I know people wanna bring it up with Deku… but what about Bakugou? Let’s talk about the sludge monster, and how Deku said something along the lines of being surprised that someone lasted in there for so long when he felt like he was gonna die after a few seconds. Bakugou was in there for a long, long time, and WE KNOW he was terrified (body language, y’all). And what happened after that? No one asked if he was ok. They PRAISED HIM for putting up a good fight. There was no recovery time, no counseling, no nothing. As loud as he is, this is a teenager, y’all. Someone should’ve said something (whether he agreed to it or not). But this dates back to childhood when he fell into the river and got mad at Deku offering help. It looks like a dick move on his part, his whole “I don’t need help” disposition looks like a dick move, but LOOK AT HOW PRO HEROES ACTED WHEN HE ALMOST DIED?! So yeah, he probably thinks that getting help is a weakness, there’s no need to talk about your fears, and he’s kinda in a society that validates that problematic way of thinking to some degree. Like he does not know how to ask for help or express himself without doing the one thing folks pay attention to: fighting with his flashy quirk.

4. You know how Deku got One For All and All Might told him he has a short amount of time to learn how to use it? And Deku keeps fucking up and breaking his body and has to learn, slowly but surely, how to do it right? That’s Bakugou, only not with his quirk, but with his entire disposition as a person. Deku is the physical. Bakugou is the mental. Deku went through his life without a quirk and suddenly has one, so he has to learn how to deal. Bakugou went through his life without anyone telling him about himself, so he has to learn how to deal. They both really start their development at UA, just in different areas. All Might sees this (as pointed out in the manga pages above) and that’s why he knows they can learn from each other and be the best. I think people forget that the events of the series happen pretty quickly (ie: The Hero Killer fight feels like it takes forever, but Deku says its about ten minutes) so these kids need TIME to DEVELOP! Unlearning a decade’s worth of stuff in the span of a semester is CRAZY! But Bakugou IS making progress, it’s just slow. Just like Deku with One For All. And you can’t ignore the steps he’s taking, there’s different examples but one I really wanna point to is the Uraraka fight and how he was the ONLY ONE (besides Aizawa) who wanted to show her the respect she deserved by treating her like a fighter.

5. Or, you know, if you don’t like a ship you can just… leave it be? It’s easy to avoid the bakudeku tag :)
