The Inner Workings of a Chibi.
Nanowrimo Novel tidbit: Double H (in which Kingdom Hearts happens?)

This is part of the second chapter and takes a look at the relationship between the lead character, Gable, and his boyfriend Avery (who is a theatre major, hence there being mention of a script).

Warnings: boys who like boys, me trying to get you interested in my story by introducing you to cute boys, video games that cheat, keys cannot be weapons, and zebra stripes are a bad fashion decision

Chapter Two
Day One

           “Son of a bitch!”
Gable looks up from his computer screen and turns in his chair, glancing over at Avery.  His boyfriend is sitting on the floor, a video game controller clutched in his hands as the words GAME OVER materialize onto the television screen.

“Avery, didn’t you come over to read through the script again?”

“I’ll get to that,” he says as he restarts from his last save point, “Fucking end boss cheats.”

“That’s not possible.  It’s a game.  It can’t cheat.”

“Then tell me, how did we hit each other at the same time but I’m the one who loses?”

“Maybe it wasn’t actually at the same tim-” Gable stops when Avery turns a deadly glare in his direction, “… fine, the game cheats.”

“Thank you!”

The cutscene begins for the fifth time as two boys stand together, one holding a blade that looks like sharp, blue lightning, the other boy holding a large- “Is that a key?” Gable asks.

“Yes.”

“How can you kill something with a key?”

“Because you just can.”

Gable wants to say something about keys as weapons of battle being completely illogical but he knows that Avery doesn’t care.  He is the guy who acts like the characters are real life people who can be paired together in actual relationships that take place after the credits roll.  Speaking of which, “I thought that other kid was a bad guy or something.”

“That was the first game, god Gable, can’t you keep up with the story?”

“I am.  I remember you bitching about him being a little shithead who stole your weapon and gave you a wooden sword instead.”

“Again, that was the first game,” Avery says, sighing and giving Gable a look of complete and total duh.  “They’re friends again now.  Well… maybe a bit more than friends, depending on your interpretation of their close relationshi-”

“He forgave him just like that?”  Gable interrupts Avery before his boyfriend becomes lost in trying to justify why he wants two imaginary teenage boys to hook up at the end of a video game.  “The kid with the key is kind of a dolt, isn’t he?”

“Hey!  He’s not a dolt!  What if the two of us were in that situa-”

“Oh no,” Gable shakes his head, “We are not playing the what if it were us in that situation game.  I always lose.”

Avery laughs, “Fine fine.  To answer your question, it wasn’t his friend’s fault.  Don’t you remember watching me beat the first game the other day?”

“I apologize.  I had college things to do, you know, like study?”

“For the last time I am getting to it!  And-shit!  Son of a bitch!”  And in seconds Gable’s dorm room is filled with the furious sounds of Avery’s fingers pushing buttons as he tries to save the world from… a guy wearing a zebra striped coat?

“Please tell me that guy in the coat is gay.  At least then he’d have an excuse for trying to pull off skinned zebra.”

“Shh!”  Avery’s eyes are focused on the screen, jumping around and trying to pull off a series of commands that appear in front of him.  Gable just shakes his head and turns back to his computer screen.
