Headcanon: Kanji and Naoto for "send me a ship"

I’m going to try and answer these in little headcanon writing blurbs, so here we go  :)  For tumblr user blueinthemorning ^^

1.  Who cooks:

When Naoto comes home from work, exhausted from a long day at the police station, the first thing she notices is the pleasant smell of cooked rice and meat.  Her stomach happily rumbles as she steps into the kitchen, watching as Kanji chops vegetables and throws them in a sizzling pan, “I can help with that,” she says.

“You can, yes, but you’re going to sit down at the table and relax.”

“I am not completely useless after work, Kanji.”

“I know that.”

But Naoto just smiles and sits at the table, shaking her head, “But this is a tired argument that will have us going back and forth in circles.”

“Yep.  See how much easier things are if you just give in?”

2.  Who does the laundry and other chores:

It amazes her how there is absolutely nothing to do when she gets home, “You make a rather good wife, Kanji,” she says with a chuckle.

“I have to be.  You are terrible at this stuff.”

Naoto’s eyes widen, her face turning flush, “I-I am capable of washing clothes!”

“Really?  What ever did happen to that jacket you use to wear?”

Naoto frowns, looking away from him, “… you made me another one.”

“And why is that?”

“… just shut up and kiss me, Mrs. Tatsumi.”

3.  How many children do they have:

It was never part of their plan – by their Naoto really means hers.  Technically speaking, it had always been something that Kanji’s wanted.  Ever since he was at Yasogami High, making stuffed animals for little kids and making them smile, he thought I would be an awesome dad someday.

However, dating a superwoman cop had put that dream on hold… or so he thought.

It’s rather startling news when she comes home one day, announcing her pregnancy.  The first thing she does is wonder how that’s even remotely possible since she has protection at the ready like bullets for her gun.  The second thing she does is panics, pacing back and forth, going on and on about how this isn’t at all part of her plan.  And Kanji’s trying not to smile, really, but the corners of his mouth are turned up into a grin and he’s already imagining what a beautiful mother she will be.

Then she points a finger at him, blaming him, and he can’t hardly begin to defend himself from something he’s been wanting for a while, “It’ll be fine,” he says, “You’ll be a great mother,” because he knows what she’s really nervous about.

“Right.  A workaholic detective who has gender issues.”

“And a stay-at-home husband who makes plushies and has high heels in his closet.”

It’s the craziest combination that Naoto’s ever heard of for parents, though she supposes that it has worked with them so far.  So she quietly accepts the fact that they are going to have a child.

But then the doctor tells her later that it is twins, and that stirs up a new set of problems.

4.  Who’s more dominate:

Naoto would like to think that she is the dominate force in the house, but she learns quickly that the peaceful space away from the hectic detective life belongs to Kanji.  He cooks, he cleans, he does absolutely everything, knows all the nooks and crannies of their home and what he says absolutely goes.

However, depending on what day of the week it is, what he says most definitely puts her in charge.

5.  Favorite nonsexual activity:

Kanji always does his best sewing during the times when Naoto doesn’t have to work.  The children are content with going outside and playing, or staying in with the latest video game gadget when the weather doesn’t permit for outdoor play.  Naoto despises the electronic toys, but she quietly admits to herself that it does serve as a good reward when they complete their homework and bring home good grades.

On the days Naoto gets to stay home she reads as if it’s going out of style.  However, her favorite reading spot is the same spot it had been back at Yasogami High – on the floor, relaxing in a pile of fabric at Kanji’s feet as he sews together a stuffed toy or outfit.

6.  Their favorite place to be together:

(see above answer)

7.  Any traditions:

It’s a strange tradition, to say the least, that happens once a year.  After dropping the kids off at the Amagi Inn with the other children they all meet at Junes.  The entire team is there – though at this point the word team has been lovingly replaced by friends (though that’s not really enough to describe them either).  All grown up with lives and families, the eight friends stand in front of the television in the Electronic’s Department, smiling at one another before they step inside.

8.  Their “song”:

It’s not that they have a song, persay, it’s that they have a friend in the music industry that insists that they need one.  So Rise Kujikawa releases a single one day that’s dedicated to the two of them, some ballad about secret crushes, confused feelings, and love.

Naoto hates it – or so she says, because Kanji sees the cd in her car on some days and hears his wife quietly singing the words to her children on others.

9.  What they do for each other on holidays:

Naoto isn’t really big on holidays – at least, that’s what she says.  But in actuality Kanji learns that she has a big soft spot for Christmas.  It’s the one day during the year when she lets herself be a kid, being excited about presents and insisting they leave cookies out.  One year, he decides to get creative, putting all of the gifts in a large sack and leaving it by the tree as if the white bearded man had actually been to their house.  The twins are full of excitement, jumping up and down and squeeing to Naoto about how Santa had actually, actually been to their house!  Of course, Naoto uses them as an excuse for her own excitement, but deep down Kanji knows what her bright eyes and quiet smile really mean and swears that his wife believes in something magical that day.

10.  Where did they go for their honeymoon:

Naoto absolutely insisted that they do not go to the Amagi Inn despite Yukiko’s generous offer and Kanji’s excitement – he really, really needs to get out more, there’s better places to see, Naoto says, but besides the trip to Port Island so many years ago Kanji has no idea.  Sadly, Naoto knows her friends, knows that no matter where they go in Inaba one – or two, or all six – will show up there.  So she gives in and sets up reservations at the Inn.

Only to wisk her husband away to some undisclosed location at the last minute.

Kanji has a wonderful time, and to this day he still won’t tell the others where they went, especially since they return to that place every year for their anniversary.

11.  Where did they first meet:

The last thing that Kanji expects is to be stopped in front of his mom’s shop by some handsomely dressed young man.  Handsome?  Did he really just think that?  But it’s hard not too, honestly, with his sharp coat and hat, and the way he talks is the cool, confident way that Kanji sometimes wishes he could do.  At this point, however, there’s no hope for Kanji to ever be proper, he’s too busy beating up biker gangs and scaring the crap out of everyone around him.

Still, this young man might be a good example to follow, sometime in the future, when he can finally stop bleaching his hair and wearing skulls on his clothing.

12.  Any pets:

“Please?

"No.”

“Pleeeeeease?”

“No.”

“Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease?”

Naoto sighs and rubs her forehead, “We are not getting a puppy.”

“And why not?”  Kanji asks, standing behind their two twins with his arms crossed at his chest.

Naoto frowns, “I suppose you do not realize the responsibilities that-”

Kanji raises an eyebrow, “Are you trying to argue with me in our house?”

Naoto lets out a loud sigh.  There goes that dominance thing again.

13.  What do they fight over:

“I do not like you.”

Kanji blinks and looks down at Naoto, his heart beating against his chest as he tries to not let that statement sting too badly.  Still, his voice comes out in a stammer, “O-oh.”

Naoto frowns, glancing away at the tallest highschooler in Japan, “… that… is not completely honest,” she says, “and Senpai says that I should be honest.”

“Sounded pretty honest to me.”

“Well… it is not…” Naoto takes a deep breath, “In all honesty I do not like the things you put me through, so-”

“Whoa whoa whoa, put you through?”  Kanji doesn’t mean to laugh but he does, “What about you?”

“What about me?”

“Are you fucking kidding me?  I’m the one who’s been into ya for months!”

“And that is the problem!  It… it messes me up!  It messes everything up!”

“What?!”

“I came here to solve a case, not to make friends, or to… I-I have no time for things like this!”

“Oh, well sorry to inconvenience ya with… what exactly?”

“Just… being here!  Being here for me!  Mixing everything up that I have worked so hard for!”

“Oh, well fuck, I’m sorry, I’ll just be a jackass to ya from now on, how about that?!”

“That… that is not what-”

“Then what do you want?!  You’re pissed off because I mess things up – I don’t even know what it is that I mess up!”

“My feelings!  My… just… i-it is not what I planned for!”

“Things don’t always go the way you want!  You think I planned on fallin’ in love with ya?  Cuz I didn’t!”

“… love?”

This isn’t the last fight the two will have, but it’s the biggest one that either of them can remember.  The debate about love stretches on for what feels like hours, Naoto claiming that she has no time, which later boils down to I do not deserve it.  Kanji wishes that he were better with words, but as it stands when he gets emotional he feels the need to scream, which escalates something that could’ve been a quiet conversation into a yelling match.

Somehow, at the end of all things, voices sore and bodies spent from the raw emotion of it all they end up kissing, lips crushed against one another in a hot sort of kiss that leaves them exhausted and breathless.

A husband, two twins, and a puppy later Naoto is still apologizing for having any doubts.

14.  Do they go on vacations, if so where:

After the honeymoon trip Kanji gets a delightful taste for travel.  However, when the children are born, the trips shift from exotic countries to theme parks with well dressed mice, ducks, and princesses.  So when the two need a break from absolutely everything, they end up disappearing to the Amagi Inn, Kanji’s mother more than happy to play Grandma Tatsumi for them.
