To be honest, I do think these two would make a cute pairing. I personally don’t pair them with one another (I do Souji/Yosuke and Chie/Yukiko), but I can see it. So like the last batch of “send me a ship” questions I did for Kanji and Naoto, these will be answered in little headcanons :) And it kind of goes along with those headcanons, so the answers might mention those answers or be similar to them ^^
***
1. Who cooks:
Yosuke is completely opposed to the idea of Chie cooking, which usually earns him a glare so hard that he swears his persona can feel it. So he – rather reluctantly – lets her cook.
Aiya loves him for it, because they usually end up ordering take-out after the smoke clears from their kitchen.
2. Who does the laundry and other chores:
It’s not a matter of who does the cleaning around the house, it’s a matter of who can argue the other into submission.
“I did the dishes last time!” Chie says.
“Nu uh, I did! Because you made that terrible stew and I cleaned out the pot!”
“Terrible?! It wasn’t terrible! You just can’t handle spice!”
“No, that’s not it, I just can’t handle being poisoned!”
In most cases the arguments end in a draw, both fighters standing at the sink, one washing the dishes while one rinses and dries.
This, of course, leads to another argument about the need for a dishwasher (Yosuke) vs. being perfectly able to scrub sauce from a plate and not needing a machine to do it (Chie).
3. How many children do they have:
“Pregnant?!”
“Y-yeah…”
“H-how did you… how the hell did you get pregnant?!”
“Well, genius, when a man is really horny and jumps on top of a woman…”
“I GET THAT!”
Both Yosuke and Chie sit next to each other on her bed. He has a vague memory of her having a tough case a couple of weeks ago – a cop, Chie is a cop of all things. She had needed someone to rant to about it and Naoto was out of the question, hell, Naoto was still at the station working, and the Amagi Inn was having its busiest season yet. So that left Yosuke, who had been more than happy to stop playing Junes manager to meet up with Chie for a meat bowl – she had mastered the challenge, Yosuke never had been able to pull it off.
Then there’s a memory of them leaving Aiya together, Chie saying something along the lines of not wanting the night to end, Yosuke suggesting they maybe watch a kung fu movie just to see that bright smile on her face. He doesn’t remember anything about the movie, but he does remember what her lips taste like – surprisingly sweet despite her beef intake, and dangerously addictive. He also remembers the color of her bra – bright green – and the pleasant sounds she had been making and…
… there’s no memory of a condom.
Stupid Hanamura. Still so very stupid
“So… um… what do we do?” Chie’s the first one to speak after minutes of silence.
“Hell if I know,” Yosuke says. This isn’t like Naoto’s pregnancy freak out – Kanji had been ready to have a family with the girl since the first day they met, probably already had booties knitted and everything.
“Well… I… I mean, we’re both adults now. We… we could just…”
“Keep the kid?”
“Y-yeah!” Chie looks up at him and tries to smile, but the uneasiness is still hinted at the edges. It’s not like they’re a couple, not really anyway. She can admit to loving the idiot, and liking to spend time with him, and even enjoying what they had done the other night and…
… wait, why aren’t they a couple again?
Yosuke seems to be thinking the same thing because now he’s smiling, too. Hell, him and Chie spend a ton of time together when they’re not busy. She’s at the Junes foodcourt for lunch, and he always makes sure to take his lunches at the same time. At first it had been a “coincidence,” but maybe it’s time to stop lying to himself. He loves the girl to death, probably always has since high school, but back then he was too busy trying to find some ideal image of a hot girl when, that entire time, the best girl stood right next to him.
“We’d be totally awesome parents.”
“Totally!” Chie says, “We’d be great!"
"So we should do this, and… you know, not just the kid but… you know, all of this.”
“Wait, you mean… like…”
“Yeah.”
One says “Dating” while the other says “Marriage,” both words jumbling over one another. They blink at each other, staring for a moment, before their eyes narrow.
“What do you mean just dating?!”
“You seriously wanna get married that fast?!”
“That fast? That fast?! We’re having a baby! We’ve been together since high school! This isn’t fast, this is moving at a snail’s pace!”
“Maybe I like snails!”
4. Who’s more dominate:
Yosuke knows that it’s Chie who runs the show, always has, and always will. Anyone who knows the couple, hell, anyone who passes them on the street knows that Chie is a dominant force that should never, ever be tested. Before, it had been a problem. Before, it was a giant force crashing into a green whirlwind, the two clashing and destroying anything that came near them. But now, things have changed. At this point in the Satonaka-Hanamura household the battle for dominance has been reduced to a calm wind. They still argue – of course, their oldest son making sure to education his two younger siblings about mommy and daddy’s yelling matches, “It’s just their way of saying they love each other,” he says, “And it only makes sense to the two of them. Don’t worry, Auntie Yukiko had to explain it to me, too.”
5. Favorite nonsexual activity:
Yosuke doesn’t understand her love for kung fu movies. He likes them, sure, but the woman has a movie shelf full of Asian men in different action poses. But then, one day, he comes home from work in a rather terrible mood. Too many sales, too many customers, and a large mess leftover to clean. He sits on the couch, muttering about how people not only have forgotten the finer points of the alphabet, but they don’t seem to know what a garbage can is.
Chie doesn’t bother to try and cook, she orders food and sits on the couch, making a movie suggestion.
Yosuke’s too tired to argue about how he’s fairly certain they’ve watched this one before, watching as Chie happily puts the disc in.
What follows is a dawning realization. As Yosuke watches one man take on a giant crowd of people with just his fists and reflexes, he can feel the tension leaving his shoulders. Suddenly, the qualms he had with the day disappear, being smashed by this man’s fist, knocked away by his swift kicks. Chie stares, watching as Yosuke starts to really get into the movie. There’s a fist to the nose, a back flip, another fist to the gut. And once the movie ends Yosuke is declaring that they should watch another.
It’s one of the happiest moments in Chie’s life.
6. Their favorite place to be together:
It’s a strange place to pick but it fits with the both of them. They have a lot of memories in that foot court, sitting in those chairs, eating and spending time with one another. Yosuke mentions, one time, that they could find a new place to meet for lunch. The food at Junes has improved over the years but it isn’t the best, there’s better places out there. Chie shakes her head, “This is fine,” as she sits across from him during her break, eating the food on her tray. Yosuke shrugs and eats his own lunch, silently happy that she’s content with meeting him here everyday, at the same time, in the same spot.
7. Any traditions:
“You cannot be serious.” Naoto says.
“Why not?” Yosuke asks, “Chie brought it up, I think it’s a good idea.”
“Yeah… first time we actually agreed on something,” Chie says with a chuckle. It’s an old joke she makes whenever her and Yosuke agree, but it’s a joke she rarely gets to make.
“So… going inside the T.V. at least once a year?” Yukiko asks, “But… why?”
“I mean… it’s a special place, for all of us. Some people go to shrines, we’ll go inside the T.V."
"I… suppose it is special,” Kanji says, frowning, “And… it is a nice world now, yeah?”
“It might be a good idea to make sure it stays that way,” Naoto says, “So… would it be just us?”
“No no, we’d call Souji and Rise, and I bet Ted would love it.”
“Well… sure, why not,” Yukiko says, smiling, “It’s been such a long time since we’ve gone.”
“It’ll be our tradition,” Chie says, “No matter what we’re doing in our lives, we always meet here, once a year. Agreed?”
Everyone smiles, nodding, “Agreed!”
8. Their “song”:
“Our what?”
“Song!” Rise says, “You two need a song!”
“Oh god,” Chie leans over and whispers to Yosuke, “Naoto was saying that she did the same thing for her and Kanji.”
Yosuke gave Rise a nervous smile. He’s not sure if he wants the entire country to hear a song about his awkward romance with his wife, “Rise, that… t-that’s really sweet, but you don’t have to-”
“Already done.”
When the song airs it leads to – you guessed it – an argument.
“You’re totally the clueless people she’s singing about, the one who didn’t realize a good thing when they saw it!”
“No way! That was all you!”
“No it wasn’t”
“Yes it was!”
9. What they do for each other on holidays:
Working retail makes Yosuke rather bitter during the holidays. The decorations. The need to have carols playing, the people rushing in to get some toy or game that they’re sold out of.
Though it’s hard to come home and be bitter when he’s got a wife and three kids happily setting up decorations, the two younger kids discussing Santa and wondering if they can stay up long enough to see him this year.
“You couldn’t do it last year,” Yosuke says with a smile, making the two younger kids pout.
“But we’re going to do it this year!”
“Yeah! Just watch!”
Despite his constant headaches during the season, what he absolutely loves is putting the two younger kids to bed – since they never manage to stay awake. Chie and their oldest son watch from the door as he pulls the blankets over the little boy and girl, a sweet smile on his face as he kisses each of their foreheads.
And Chie smiles from the door, knowing that she’s given him the best gift he could ever need.
10. Where did they go for their honeymoon:
“Come on!”
“No.”
“Dude, come on!”
“No.”
“Please! I’m begging you! I need to take her somewhere awesome!”
“No.”
Yosuke sighs, glaring at Kanji as he watches his friend put the finishing touches on a stuffed bunny, “That’s not fair. Why won’t you tell me where you guys went for your honeymoon?”
“Because it’s our place,” Kanji says, “You need to come up with your own.”
“You don’t own the place.”
“How do you know?”
Yosuke blinks, then he frowns, “Not funny.”
“Actually, it is,” then Kanji sets the bunny down, “Why not take her to the Amagi Inn? I bet Yukiko offered a room.”
“Because you assholes would show up!”
“Like you wouldn’t have had we gone to the Inn.”
“T-that’s different!”
Surprisingly though, when he talks to Chie about it she says that the Inn is perfectly fine. It’s relaxing, and she likes going there, so Yosuke smiles and takes Yukiko up on her offer.
Only… to spend the entire night arguing.
“You dork! I didn’t think you’d actually do it!”
“You said it was o.k.!”
“I was just being nice! I don’t want to be here for our honeymoon, we could come here any time!”
“Damnit Chie!” Then suddenly he smirks, “Good thing we’re going somewhere else tomorrow.”
Chie blinks, “What?”
“You really think I would take you here for something so special? Our train leaves tomorrow.”
It’s the first – and only – argument where Chie admits that she lost.
11. Where did they first meet:
It’s such an incredible cliche, Chie thinks, to marry your high school sweetheart. Except… Yosuke was never really a sweetheart, more like an occasional punching bag that sometimes sputtered out good advice. Though if she stops to think about it, Yosuke was as close as she had ever gotten to a boy back then, but if you would’ve told her that she was going to settle down with city boy Yosuke Hanamura she would’ve kicked you into the furthest reaches of space.
12. Any pets:
He’s an old dog, therefore, Chie isn’t surprised when he needs to be put down. It still hurts like hell, though. She had foolishly believed that he was going to live long enough to follow her throughout her entire life. He did make it to the first child, at least, but now that she’s pregnant with the second one she’s sad that the child will never get to meet him.
Old, fat, and a bit of a lazy pest, Chie had loved him ever since she first laid eyes on him with Yukiko, the dark haired little girl sad that she couldn’t take him in. Yukiko sits with her now, both women holding hands and crying over their loss.
Yukiko is surprised when, a month later, she gets a call from Chie to come over right away. When she arrives at the house she can only stare as Chie happily pets a puppy that looks similar to her first, “Yosuke brought him home,” she says, the puppy barking and licking her face, “Can you believe it!”
“The resemblance is uncanny,” Yukiko whispers, walking over to pet the puppy too.
“Now the baby will get to meet him!”
Yukiko looks up where she sees Yosuke watching the two of them. She gives him a grateful smile before she goes back to petting the excited, young pup.
From that moment on there isn’t a time when there isn’t a puppy in the Satonaka-Hanamura household.
13. What do they fight over:
The easier question is, “What don’t they fight over,” because there isn’t a moment when Yosuke and Chie aren’t snapping at one another. Anything that can be argued over absolutely is argued over, from something running out in the house – milk, the last argument had been over milk – to someone forgetting an important date – Yosuke swears their anniversary should be when they first entered the T.V. together, but Chie thinks it should be when they first spoke to one another.
In short, Yosuke and Chie only speak one language: loud yelling.
14. Do they go on vacations, if so where:
Their schedules don’t allow for many vacations. Yosuke being a retail manager has his work schedule just as screwed up as Chie’s, especially when she has a case. That’s why the Amagi Inn is so vital. It’s not terrible far away, it’s relaxing, and they can escape there for a couple of hours together before returning to their hectic lives.
Although, once the kids are born, both parents take their first paid vacations off and take the two boys and little girl on a real family vacation.
