The Inner Workings of a Chibi.
Here’s how NOT to get someone to go with your self publishing company

This is actually part of an email we got today about possibly self-publishing our story with a company.  Take note, kids, this is how you know NOT to go with a certain company, if they try and scare you into going with them because “only 2 percent of new authors make it with the big publishers” or “unless if you’re a celebrity or had some sort of freak accident” and things like that.

Under the cut is part of the email, because the rest of the email was basically, “This is why you should believe in us even after we just said you’d never make it ever without us o.k.?”  Just… wow, no matter how many rejections I get, I’ll be sure to NEVER give this place a try.

Oh, for future writers or current writers, this company is called Xlibris.

I do hope that this email finds you well. Let me share you my thoughts: It is true enough that while John Grisham earns 50,000 to 100,000 worth of a book deal from Big time publishing houses, new emerging authors scamper and debut themselves in finding a publisher that will tell them the potential success of their book and hope to get a deal on it. Unfortunately, there will only be 2% success rate and that’s it. For a new emerging author you need to be a celebrity or a politician to be seriously considered by TRADITIONAL publishers. Truly, this is a dilemma for both authors and publishers.

Looking at a bigger picture, unless if you really have an extremely unique story telling techniques or you burn yourself on an accident beyond being recognizable and write a story, I am sure your book will not only be publish but will appear to major magazine or TV shows in U.S. and abroad. I am sure you did not burn yourself; I am pretty sure you didn’t jump from a plane without any parachute and live to tell the horrors of your experience. I am not even sure if you do have a unique material. So what am I sure of? I am sure that you believe in your story. I am certain that you wanted to realize this dream of yours and have your book published. I am quite positive that you want to hold your book in print and leave a legacy to the future generations, and you positively wanting to do this for the longest time. So, what are you doing with your book? Does your dream all boils down to money?
