Oh snap NO YOU DIDN’T!

1. The first character I first fell in love with

Kurama.  At first, for fangirlish, “Hot damn he’s pretty,” reasons that quickly grew into, “You’re an awesome character,” reasons.  The Karasu fight made that explode, but what actually sealed it was during the Sensui arc, when he’s fighting the gamer kid (sorry, I can’t remember his name) and he’s forced to kill the kid so they can keep going through the tunnel.  Just… after that, he’s just so cold and pissed off in that next fight with Toguro (the… elder one, I think?  Not the one who died in the tournament) and just… something about characters you think are going to be calm all the time who have that moment of snapping?  And it wasn’t like yelling angry snapping, but just quiet, calm, “I just trapped you in this illusion forever, let’s move on team,” snapping.  Just… yikes.

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now

Yuusuke and Kuwabara.  I mean I know Yuusuke’s the main character but at first… o.k. no I’ve always had a soft spot for him, so this goes to Kuwabara.  When I watched the series I was in the “I only like bishonen” phase of my anime career, so seeing Kuwabara was like, “… ugh.”  But he’s actually a great character with a big heart, and my love for him just exploded when he “pretended to be dead” in the tournament just to get Yuusuke to realize his full potential, like… way to take the classic “best friend death” and turn it on its head.

3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t

Um… I can’t think of anyone, really?  I warmed up to Keiko so… yeah… I guess maybe Botan?  I just… I dunno, the girls for the most part didn’t fight so… *shrugs*  

4. The character I love that everyone else hates

Mukuro.  I’m not sure if people hate her, but I remember the Hiei/Kurama fandom having a fit over her existence because “oh noes she breaks them up.”  Just… I think SHE was what made me realize that there’s no need to hate the female characters in series even if you think they break up your yaoi otp.  She’s just so awesome!  First of all, it was like, FINALLY A GIRL FIGHTING!  Second of all, her back story is really interesting (I think the manga covers it more than the anime).  Just… come on, she was abused by her father for fuck’s sake and burned half her face in an attempt to get him to stop, then she came back as a bad ass, how could you NOT like that?!  Not to mention from an OTP standpoint, a few things… um… I have my own headcanons about demons not really giving a shit about relationships, as in, they sleep with who they want and that’s that, so even if you were to assume that she “broke up the OTP” I really don’t think Kurama cares what Hiei does?  Also, considering the fact that she was abused by her father and Hiei’s own fucked up childhood with being tossed away by women… in what world would they make a good couple at all?  Friends, sure, but… a couple would take some work, and if they could make it work, again… not like Kurama cares what Hiei does, the series already proves that Hiei at least respects him, which to me, is a huge, HUGE deal, probably bigger than “OMG HE’S IN LOVE!”

5. The character I used to love but don’t any longer

Um… I’m not really in the fandom much, so I can’t really answer that.

6. The character I would totally smooch

Kuwabara, just… he grew on me a lot  :)

7. The character I’d want to be like

Kurama.  He’s just so smart and good at everything he does  ^^;;;

8. The character I’d slap

Karasu.  Just… I know the series had a lot of bad guys, but none felt as sinister as him.

9. A pairing that I love

Hiei/Kurama was my number one OTP.  I also ended up liking Yuusuke/Kurama somehow, and Kuwabara/Yuusuke.  Just… spirit detective OTP?  Oh, and Sensui/Itsuki, which is… that’s canon right, it better be.

10. A pairing that I despise

There wasn’t really a pairing I despised, it was more like, a fandom thing I despised.  I never got into the Karasu/Kurama pairing because the fics I found were always so, “OMG Karasu rapes Kurama,” and just… o.k., not saying that he wouldn’t want to, just saying that if he DID Kurama would put up one hell of a fight, like, Karasu would either be scarred for life or killed, simple as that.  In that same token, just fics that treated Hiei like this 5-year-old little helpless kid when it came to sex.  Sure, I believe that that’s the last thing on his mind, but I don’t think he’s so whiny and dumb about it.  He lived in the demon world, there’s no way he doesn’t know about things like that, at least to me.  He got tossed off an island as a baby, pretty sure he grew up ridiculously fast and learned the ways of, well, everything.  Just… he’s not some blushy blushy kid, you know?  His lack of height doesn’t mean that he’s a kid, it just means he’s short!
