the concept of treating adolescents like children throughout the entirety of their teenage years and then at around age 17 pulling a complete 180 and expecting them to decide within the next couple years what they want to do with the rest of their lives

This.  Just this, simply this.  That’s why I love Persona 4 for having teenagers deal with such “mature” concepts.  Little do people realize that we deal with issues of trying to figure out who we are in our TEENAGE YEARS!  Assuming that someone is “too young” for such topics as gender, sexuality, and other “mature” topics is just crazy, especially since, suddenly when it’s time for college you want us to decide what we want to do with our lives.
