Headcanon: On the next exciting episode...

Let’s knock these requests out!  I got three of them done while at work today, will write more tomorrow assuming that it’s slow  :)

This first one is for the always wonderful krisrix, who drew adorable fanart of Naoto clinging to Kanji.  There’s two versions of this request, this is the more lighthearted response.

Warnings:  Again.  Damn you.  Neo-Featherman.  If you need a reference, check out this headcanon here  :)

“Y-you… you do not think he will die, do you?”

This is the last thing Kanji expects when spending the evening at Naoto’s place.  To his surprise, she had been the one to extend the invitation.  Perhaps it’s because he’s learned his lesson, keeping his distance from her Neo-Featherman shrine of collectables.  The girl hadn’t spoken to him for an entire week after he had made the mistake of picking one up to “play” with.

But as she curls up against his strong chest, fingers clutching to his tank top, he now understands the real reason for her call.

The episode ends on a rather dramatic cliffhanger where Naoto’s favorite ranger, the warrior in blue, is hit with a large blast of energy that has left him unconscious, the other rangers surrounding him and pleading with him to get up as the “To be continued” fades into the scene.

“Naw, that guy is tough, he’ll be o.k.”

“But… b-but how do you know?”  She asks, curling against him more.  Her small hands tremble around the fabric of his shirt, a worried look spread across her beautiful face, “You have no concrete evidence that he will survive!”

“He’s been hurt before, yeah?  This ain’t nothin.’”

“He is not moving!”

“Naoto…”

“He is going to die,” she whispers, voice small and sad, “… h-he is going to die… and they will have to replace him.  But… but they cannot replace him, he is my favorite!”

Kanji sighs, “Look, he’ll be o.k.  I promise.”

“You promise a lot of things.”

“Yeah so?”

“Promises can be broken, Kanji.”

“I ain’t breakin’ no promise to you, though!  I would never do that!”

“But… you have no way of knowing-”

“He ain’t dead, all right?  I saw it.”

The minute the words leave his mouth Kanji regrets it.  Naoto stares up at him, then a hard frown settles across her face, “… what?”

“I-I mean… I-I ain’t see shit!”

She doesn’t believe him, of course, “You’ve watched the episode already?”

“Just… l-look, I know you record these, and… a-and watch them when you ain’t workin,’ but… c-come on, you see where the episode ended just now!  I-I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next!”

“How far ahead are you?”

“I… u-um…”

Naoto lets go of his shirt, no longer clinging to it in the cute way she had been before.  Damnit, he really should’ve kept his mouth shut.

“How.  Far.  Ahead.  Are.  You?”

“… five episodes.”

“Five?!”

“I’m sorry!  It… it just… it was getting really good and-”

It takes a week and a half for Naoto to call him this time after she places an important disclaimer: no spoilers.
