This was DiCaprio’s first major role, and everyone was shocked at the red carpet to discover that he was just acting as a child with a mental illness, that he didn’t actually have one.  Which begs the question, WHERE THE FUCK IS HIS OSCAR.

I remember being confused by all of the “He’s so hot!” hype after Titanic came out. What’s Eating Gilbert Grape was the first film I ever saw DiCaprio in and I was blown away by his acting. Yes, he’s an attractive man, but he also has the acting chops! 

He hasn’t won an Oscar because the Oscars are more about the studios throwing money at the board than about the actual talent out there. See: all of the POC, women, etc that have been overlooked in favor of the Academy’s choices.  Or when the Academy is tryin got make some weird “political” choice by choosing one film over another because they’ve lost all relevancy in some ways. 

Goddamn I forgot that was him.  I remember thinking that they just got a kid who had a mental illness, I didn’t realize he was acting!
