Can we just appreciate how Lottie is possibly the greatest friend, ever?

splitseconddecision

the entire time i spent watching this movie i was just waiting for charlotte to turn into a traitorous bitch, because that is what the media has told me for my entire life that her character archetype is supposed to do

kudos to disney for proving me wrong

And that is another thing I adore about this movie. It is so sickeningly, disturbingly rare to see two things in media: 1. a “shallow” (likes clothes and boys), “vain” (enjoys doing her hair and makeup) “spoiled” (comes from a wealthy family) girl who isn’t a total bitch, and 2. strong, devoted female friendships where the participants aren’t catty and don’t try to undercut each other because of a man, but instead hold each other up and help each other get through the tough spots. Part of why Lottie is so delightful is how she takes all the media stereotypes about her “type” of character and absolutely does not conform to them. I think it’s really sad how the media sets us up to always be derisive, dismissive, or otherwise nasty to/about girls like Lottie, and here she is just being an amazing friend and human. Well done, Disney.
