Thank you so much!  I’m actually not mad, it’s more like… frustrated that these assumptions about plus sized people are still going on.  I mean… I’m 30 now, and these comments are the same type of comments I grew up with.  You know, comparing you to an anime, assuming you eat a bunch, comparing you to a fat celebrity, just… it’s so old it’s like, “Really?  Still?  This is still happening?”  But of course it is, because there will always be assholes, it’s just extra frustrating because there are great people who are scared to cosplay because of it.

First of all, we’re all geeks in costume.  Like, come on, we dress up like fictional characters on an occasion that isn’t Halloween, you know there’s some “normal” people who are at the hotel just staring and thinking we’re the weirdest people around.  You know you’re getting stared at when you go to get food in your costume.  So why, oh why, are you picking on another person who is dressed up, too?  If anything, shouldn’t you be happy that someone else gets it?

Second of all, cosplay is supposed to be fun.  This is a fun activity. It shouldn’t be this difficult to have fun.  It really shouldn’t.  But it is, for a lot of people out there, because they’re worried about being made fun of.  And, like I said in my article, chances are that these people have already been laughed at outside of the community, the last thing they need is to be poked at inside the community, too.

So… yeah, it’s mostly frustration, but I’m trying to turn it around into something positive, like, fried chicken joke?  Fine, I’ll make some fried chicken.  It was delicious and symbolic.  And if someone sees that and realizes that, hey, yeah, this is silly I should be cosplaying too, then… awesome  <3
