actually, no she wasn’t.

they were in middle school.

middle school in japan starts at 7th grade. they were first years in the anime.

madoka was 12 years old.

This.  Just.  Can we just.  O.K.  

Can you imagine being 12 and seeing the world shift to this really fucked up Crayola crayon nightmare?  Then this girl saves you with guns that come from under her skirt.  Then said girl GETS HER HEAD BITTEN OFF right in front of you?  And shortly after your best friend becomes a fucking magical girl anyway and by the way that soul gem is her life literally in her hands.  Then that best friend turns into a witch.  Now she has to die anyway.  Actually that’s two deaths in one because the other magical girl dies with her.      

Then this other black haired girl apparently has some connection with you that you don’t even understand because that happened like 13431432 times and you’re just not aware of it because she keeps going back to try and fix this shit.  By the way MADOKA WAS A MAGICAL GIRL FIRST WHY DOES NO ONE EVER SEEM TO REMEMBER THIS?!  SHE SAVED HOMURA!  Why does everyone get on Madoka’s case for “crying too much” when Homura was saved by her first?  And since when is it terrible to cry over, I dunno, a girl getting her head chomped off in front of you?

Anyhow, moving on. 

There’s also this crazy talking cat rabbit thing that gives you this metaphor about humans and cattle and blah blah I’ve been screwing you over but that’s the circle of life.  

And at the end of the day you get to be the hero.  Awesome.  Except that means you give up your life.  You give up the one friend who is left because the others are DEAD.  You give up your mama and papa and baby brother.  And you can only hope that this works, this time, because apparently it hasn’t worked AT ALL in all of the previous times.  

And isn’t this all in the span of a goddamn month?

Madoka is weak?  Really?  Why?  Because she doesn’t go in guns blazing like Homura?  Homura wouldn’t even have those guns if not for Madoka in the first place!
