The Inner Workings of a Chibi.
Your article about being an A+sized cosplayer actually made me cry. I'm not A plus sized, but I'm really short and I carry some extra weight too so I'm totally not in the average beauty standard, especially the one carried by video games, animes and movies. And it just sounded so right, what u said, bc it reminds of "OH GOD I WANT TO COSPLAY THIS" and I just don't dare because I'm not physically the type of the caracter so I just end up doing little caracters i dont even like so i fit in them...

See, that’s something else people don’t take into account, either.  Size is just so… bizarre?  Like you may be small in one area, but larger in another.  And I swear sometimes people message me and they’re like, “Oh god thank you because I get teased,” and I look at their picture and am really surprised, because they’re smaller than me.  And I wonder, “how are you plus sized?!  Why are you being teased?!”  But plus sized is just this huge realm, really.  Plus sized doesn’t always mean you’re plus everywhere, you could wear a small top but have larger hips, or something like that.

And people also assume that fat = lazy which… isn’t the case at all.  But that’s the problem in general: too many assumptions.  About everyone.  And I do it, too.  Sometimes skinny people who I think are just lovely and perfect and have no problems in the cosplay community because they’re skinny are like, “Thank you so much because I get teased.”  And I’m like, “WHAT?!”  But it’s true!  I’ve seen it.  I have a friend and I saw her getting harassed on her page because she wasn’t tan enough?  And that “you’re just here to make men happy.”  And THEN there’s assumptions with men, too, because of people like THAT!  I went in thinking, “Well clearly all my fans are female because I’m like, screw what people tell you,” but wouldn’t you know it?  I have male fans!  And my first thought was, sadly, “… why?  What’s the catch?  I don’t dress in revealing cosplay at all…” then I realized, “Wow Chibi what are you doing?  Stop that.  That’s not cool.  You KNOW that not everyone follows the stereotype, come on girl.”

All and all, cosplay who you want.  I know you’ll think that you can’t, or shouldn’t, because when I decided to cosplay I thought the same thing.  And the really interesting thing is that if they actually, really showed cosplay for what it is, the majority of us are NOT the perfect size… whatever the hell the perfect size even is.
