Can I just point out that the guy who wrote this, Andy Borowitz, is a comedy writer for the New Yorker? The points he’s making are true enough, but those aren’t actual quotes.

I’m obviously not trying to defend Arizona Republicans, but the least we can do is acknowledge this as a joke.

On the one hand, that makes a lot of sense that this is written in jest.
