I KNEW SOMEONE WOULD GIVE THEM TO ME! I do have other pairings I love but… man I can never deny these two. HERE WE GO! It’s been a while, but here we go! It’s probably not that great, lol.
They say that moving day is the most tedious day you will ever encounter — with the exception of getting your driver’s license and waiting in line for an eternity. However, for one Kanji Tatsumi, moving day isn’t tedious at all. It’s quite the opposite, actually, as he sets another box into the empty space that will be his living room. Their living room, actually. He smiles as the thought lingers in his mind.
This place is theirs now.
Naoto Shirogane, on the other hand, looks ready to keel over. Never one to admit when she’s tired, the smaller woman brings in another box. The box is much smaller than the one Kanji lugged in, but he knows better than to make a comment. Instead, he watches as she takes a long swig of water, a small amount of sweat massaging her forehead and trickling down her cheek. At least she’s gotten rid of the hat and button down shirt for the sake of moving, otherwise, she’d probably be overheating. Moving in the summer probably wasn’t the best idea in the world, but that’s what tank tops and comfortable pants are for.
“Maybe you should take a break,” Kanji says, but he knows its pointless. Naoto shakes her head and walks right back outside to grab another box. She isn’t going to stop until they’re done, and her stubbornness is just one of the many things he finds appealing — somehow.
Together, they get everything off the truck before the sun sets. Naoto finally lets herself sit down, which turns into a graceful collapse onto the living room carpet, the air conditioner on full blast.
“I’ll go return the truck,” Kanji says, and Naoto makes some sort of grunting noise that he takes as meaning, “Yes, please, and bring food while you are out.”
So Kanji returns the truck they rented, feeling on top of the world as he hops a bus back to his home — their home — but only after getting a generous amount of take out so they can celebrate their new living space properly. He’s not surprised to see Naoto up and moving when he returns, already unpacking boxes and putting things in their rightful place. Dishes, towels, clothing and-
“Where did my hat go?”
Kanji sets down the bags of food, the kitchen becoming consumed in the aroma of delicious Asian spices and sauces. “Your hat? You took it off while we were moving.”
“I know, but where is it now?”
Kanji begins to pull the food out of its paper bags, still in his new home euphoria as the hat crisis continues to build up behind him. ”I’m sure it’ll turn up,” he says, “Come and eat.”
Seven minutes into dinner, Kanji’s stomach begins to curdle. The words I’m sure it’ll turn up echo in his mind for some reason as he mentally replays where his love’s hat could be. Living room? Bedroom? Bathroom? Moving truck?
Moving… truck…
“Oh fuck, oh FUCK!”
Naoto looks up from a forkful of rice, raising an eyebrow at the panicked look on Kanji’s face. ”What is it?” She asks.
“The hat. It… i-it…” shit, shit shit shit! It’s on the truck, still on the goddamn truck! He hadn’t thought to check inside before returning it, too busy coming up with wallpaper patterns and matching curtains for his home with Naoto Shirogane. Naoto, dear Naoto, the love of his life since high school, is going to murder his face for losing her beloved-
“It is right over there,” she says, nodding over to her button down shirt. "It is underneath my shirt. I remember setting them both down earlier.“
Kanji stands up and walks over to the coat, lifting it to see the one and only hat. He sighs softly in relief. Oh goodness, thank goodness, “That’s a relief,” he says.
"I suppose, but now I am a little sad.”
“Sad? Why?”
“I thought I would find a better reason for you to scream oh FUCK in our new home.”
Kanji feels his face turn flush when he sees the sly look on Naoto’s face. He takes a deep breath and whispers in anticipation, “Oh fuck,”
