First article is up about my adventures at E3, more to come for other websites. Lots of games are mentioned that I got a chance to play and enjoy. Which games are you guys excited for?
More pictures of Persona 4 Arena and just the Atlus area in general from E3. There were red and yellow couches in the middle where you could sit that had free candy though blue couches would’ve just blew my mind, they still fit the color scheme though As you can see, the walls were decorated with P4 Arena, and there was a giant T.V. overhead that played trailers to Atlus games (mostly Persona 4 related, let’s face it, the Atlus area was mostly Persona 4 con).
The badge holder has already been posted, so no need to post mine.
As you can see, there were also Atlus booth babes, which I thought was kinda cute (I didn’t expect there to be any) it would’ve been super ridiculously cool if they had Teddie ears or something. The Chie picture, I was mostly trying to show the badge from Destructoid of P4 being nominated for best fighter. It’s got tough competition with Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Street Fighter X Tekken for the Vita, and I’m not sure if they’re counting Injustice since it wasn’t playable, but from watching the demo they were showing… wow, just… fighters are REALLY making a comeback!
I played more P4 and I think I’m getting better! I was amused when one of the boys asked if I played “these games” and I just kind of chuckled like, “Oh yeah,” then proceeded to beat the crap out of him with Chie, to which he was like, “Oh shit.” I tried Naoto again and I’m at least learning to put her gun away, lol! Chie is just a warrior though, I really, really like using her, but I’m the type that wants the small and fast characters ^^ Kanji is still an unfair jerk, definitely the one where you think the attack is over then his persona comes crashing down to stab you with a lightning bolt.
There was this guy there who was really pretty amazing with Naoto, and we chatted about Persona 4 in general while fighting. It’s really cool how each character’s intro sayings seem to change depending on who they’re fighting, it’s like, they REMEMBER that this group is a group of friends. Kanji, of course, gets flustered around Naoto. But hell, even YOSUKE says something different to Naoto compared to like, Chie or whatever, and his interaction with her is pretty limited in P4. He actually calls her a “pint-sized detective,” which… yeah, he would TOTALLY call her that and get his ass kicked for it I also tried the fight stick, which was fun too, but I’m use to sticks having six buttons and this one just has four. But they really are the only four buttons you use, so that makes sense.
And yes, in the dub, that’s Johnny Yong Bosch as Souji/Yu. I’m not sure what they’ll do for the anime, if they do anything at all, since him and Adachi are the same. It’s kinda weird hearing Souji/Yu talk, not because it’s a bad voice or anything, but because as far as P4 dubs go I’m use to him being silent. Now he has a voice!
It’s not the same fight stick that was shown before, but I think it still looks gorgeous. I believe the guy at the booth said it was coming out in the U.S. to go along with the game release :)
So I’m in L.A. for E3 and I knew that the one game I absolutely had to play was Persona 4 Arena. All right, P4 fans and fighting fans in general, this game is pretty awesome. It’s one of those games that can be pretty simple to get into, or can get ridiculously complex with its combos. It was kinda nice playing at E3, because everyone was still kind of learning, so not too many people knew how to cancel a combo with a combo and a side of fries.
The game was dubbed, but it was hard to hear because… well, E3, crowds. Each of the characters have their insulting tag-line under their name (like Naoto being the high IQ Killjoy or something) and the announcer’s phrases are just… wacky, in that dramatic, “Let’s enjoy a great showtime,” from Guilty Gear sort of way. For P4 fans, the characters are, well, in character. Kanji gets a bit embarrassed when facing Naoto, and his win quote when he beats her is so adorable, something along the lines of, “I just fought you as an equal, you know, because… I-I respect ya,” or something Kanji-like.
As far as characters go I tried as many as I could (went to the area twice today because in the last hour of E3 today we were like, “What the hell let’s go back). I tried Naoto immediately, but I’ll tell you right now, she will take some getting use to. Rule number one: always remember to put your gun AWAY after firing, or she will just stand there. She does seem to specialize in shooting and setting traps and such, but she’s so small and awesome that you want to run in and combo the hell out of someone. You can do that, sure, sort of. NOT like you can with Chie. Naoto’s whole point seems to be to set traps, have said person run into traps, and run in and take them out. I did, however, accidentally pull off Hamaon. It didn’t work because the person blocked, but I was actually like, "WHOA!”
Kanji is… really strong. Like… he’s obviously the large character type, but he’s not nearly as slow as most large characters and will bash your face in. I swear, he’ll hit you like four times and it’s just… yeah. I’m use to Hulk slow, or Potemkin. Kanji isn’t fast, by all means, but he works terribly well with his persona. It’s one of those, “Oh sweet the combo’s over… wait, no, it’s not, FUCK!” Yosuke is fast. Fast like, running behind you and twirling kunai and chuckling as he hits you twelve times and jumps around like a ninja. Chie is super fun to use. She’s got great kicks and combos, and her and her persona work together really well. Souji/Yu isn’t bad, but I kept thinking I was going to have Ky from Guilty Gear and he is/isn’t Ky. He’s not as fast as I want him to be? I dunno what it is, but he certainly looks cool. And last, but not least, I tried Aegis. Lots of guns. Lots and lots of guns.
All and all, great game, and apparently some fancy fight stick is coming to the U.S. it sounds like? They also had the Vita video, but no demo :(

And now back to our regularly scheduled crafting. Persona 4 fandom, let’s go back to love and happiness! Give me your hearts! I’m beary serious!
All right, bear puns aside, this is another coaster I recently made :) Inspired by, well, beauty pageant Teddie and one of the win poses from Persona 4 arena, this coaster was born. As always, all coasters have a protective coating on them to make them completely usable :)
Had some friends over last night and played some Guilty Gear on PS2 (wow, awesome 2D throwback!). Then, we moved on to play some BlazBlue with not Ky Jin and the gang ^^ Afterwards, I showed them some videos from Persona 4 Arena since they hadn’t played Persona before but have heard about the fighting game coming out so were curious. I was like, “Think Guilty Gear with Persona characters, seriously,” and we had fun comparing characters (Chie has wicked kicks like Jam, Kanji’s brofist of DEATH for an Instant Kill, the antics of Faust Teddie, ect.) I also got to be a spaz and point out characters, since I had one of my friends draw pics of Kanji and Naoto for me.
Me: See! That’s Kanji! With the chair!
Friend: Ah… AH! Brofist of DOOM!
Me: And that’s Naoto!
Friend: I see, oh! I recognize the hat!
Playing Guilty Gear and BlazBlue was pretty good practice for Arena, I think, though my friend completely kicked my ass ^^;;; I’m so out of practice! I’m going to have to fix that before arena comes out, thank goodness Anime Iowa is before the game comes out so we can get together again and play :) We’ve already made plans to get together for Geek.Kon and play P4 Arena. Huzzah for fighting game parties!
Naoto combos by Kamohito. Might pick her as a sub… after Mitsuru?
Truthfully, I know I will probably not be THIS good at the game. I mean I do remember being able to string together some combos in Guilty Gear back in the day, but we’ll see? I still want this game like burning!
Sometimes, when I get excited for a game oftentimes my partner and I ramble about it or rather she lets me ramble and she joins in. Since we’re both excited for Persona 4 Arena, the ramblings have increased, and when it’s that special time of night when we’re that special kind of tired where everything his hilarious, this happens:
Me: Wouldn’t it be funny if the game had DLC? Like costume packs?
Partner: I had mentioned that before, remember? Like you get the beauty pageant outfits to fight in, but if you’re playing as Naoto you forfeit the match.
Me: No no, I remember that conversation. But what if…
