O.K. Am I the only one who took the whole ads thing in a different way? As in, I couldn’t believe how far sponsors would go? Like, in the first episode, when the train is about to run off the track and he wants to save the people, but he’s told that he should wait until the commercial break to build up suspense? How does that NOT make you think that you’re about to watch a really interesting show that, in all honesty, is a bit scary to think about?
I can actually see something like that happening in our day and age, in fact, it kinda DOES when you think about it! Reality shows when someone would like, collapse, or need an ambulance, it ALWAYS cuts to commercial. Granted, it’s previously taped, but Tiger and Bunny takes it a step further since it’s live. I can really, really see some show producer in our day and age being like, “Wait wait wait, wait for the good shot, don’t go after the civilians yet we need ratings and you need points for your sponsor.”
And don’t get me started on the game shows like Fear Factor and things, the, “What would you do for money,” shows. The, “eat this gross thing,” or, “race across this terrifying track.” Just the other day I saw a preview to a karaoke game show where they continued to have the lady go through this course of things like spiders, or other things. Just… what?!
How could you watch Tiger and Bunny and not think, “Well… fuck!” And that’s BEFORE you even get to know these characters. It’s not that outrageous of a concept, and that’s what makes it interesting. You would like to think that, “Oh, they’d totally save the people right away,” but for ratings and suspense… would they? What part of that plot point that happens in the first ten minutes is “pathetic” in any way?

Part of a series of coasters I’ve started doing for all of the wonderful anime characters who are flamboyantly beautiful. The “Born This Way” set celebrates these characters for how awesomely spectacular they are. I still want to do more characters, of course, but these three are from shows/games I really, really enjoy right now. I also want to do female characters, but for some reason only Sailor Uranus and Juri from Utena stand out ^^;;;
It might be hard to see, but burned onto the edge of the coaster is “Born This Way,” except for Shadow Kanji whose says, “Born This Way… so Get Bent!”
