With Anime Detour fast approaching, it’s time to get some woodburned coasters done.  Of course, Jack Frost has made an appearance thanks to my obsession love for Rise of the Guardians  ^^  I also plan on making some sort of wine glass or goblet or something, hopefully in time for the convention to match the coaster  :)

As always, feel free to send me a note if you’re interested in a commission, or you can check out my Etsy page.

Nodding to fashion’s ongoing preoccupation with pushing gender boundaries comes ‘Studs’, a series of ten unique photo studies. Exploring the idea of a third gender, Simon Foxton and Bea Sweet recruit a range of subjects who refuse to comply with traditional notions of the sexes. The portraits - each a study of unconventional beauty - are captured by Nick Knight in stills and fashion film.

Miguel Endara

“The portrait took nearly 138 hours to complete, and at a rate of 4.25 dots per second, he estimates the piece contains roughly 2.1 million of them”

In 2004 an unconscious man was discovered behind a fast food restaurant in Richmond Hill, Georgia. He had no belongings, severe sunburn, and was nearly blind from cataracts. The man also had absolutely no idea who he was. After months of ongoing evaluation from doctors and psychologists it was determined he was suffering from dissociative amnesia. He adopted the pseudonym Benjaman Kyle and has embarked on a search for his true identity sparking massive amounts of media coverage and even a short film, Finding Benjaman, by John Wikstrom. He is the only citizen in the United States officially listed as missing despite his whereabouts being known. One strange aspect of this predicament is that Kyle now lives completely in limbo: for the past 8 years he has been denied the ability to obtain a new social security number which in turn prevents him from opening a bank account or having a credit card. The government argues that he already has one, but despite the efforts of fingerprint matching, DNA tests, and exposure on television, he simply cannot determine his true identity.

After catching a screening of Finding Benjaman at the Tribeca Film Festival artist Miguel Endara (previously) was inspired to help in any way he could, which meant making art. Endara embarked on this portrait of Benjaman using stippling, a tedious technique which involves a pen, patience, and an obscene amount of dots. The portrait took nearly 138 hours to complete, and at a rate of 4.25 dots per second, he estimates the piece contains roughly 2.1 million of them. The hope is to spread awareness for Bengaman’s plight and to help raise money through the sale of prints to support a petition to get him a new social security number.

O.K.  I got terribly distracted with writing and things so I haven’t worked on this in a while, but with Anime Detour coming up soon it’s back to crafting I go  :)  The insane woodburned coaster project commences!

The goal is to get the arcana from Persona 4 (and technically Persona 3) and Persona 4 Golden done in time for the convention (hence why some numbers repeat, like how Souji and Adachi have the 0 slot, ect.) There’s only 4 left to sketch: The Devil, The Sun, the Moon, and the World (I believe that’s what it’s called?)  Then I might do the back of the card as one since I like the way it looks.  So 25 (+1) coasters.

^^;;;

I’ll be selling these individually since I don’t really expect anyone to buy all of them at once, lol, but Detour is April 19th, so I hope to have a finished picture posted by then of ALL of them.

The two pictures here are the coasters so far.  Ten are woodburned and done, the others sketched (since I sketch the image in pencil first then burn over it, everything is done by hand).  To think, this started with the Magician as a test… now it’s pretty out of control!

So um… enjoy?

For the kids like me who get up way early in the morning for work, here’s the progress picture for the tarot set again  :)

Sometimes, I see people going to cons, and they’ll post like Friday afternoon, “On my way now!"  And I always think, "What?!  Why so late!?  OMG YOU SHOULD BE THERE AT LIKE 8 AM!”

Then I realize… not everyone has an artist alley table who needs to pack, get to the con before the sun rises to get registered, get set up, and all that jazz.  Some people actually go to cons for like… fun?

New set of coasters done!  The leaders, the cuties, and the tough girls in Lauren Faust’s world.  A fun combination of My Little Pony, Powerpuff Girls, and Super Best Friends Forever  :)

O.K.  Phew.  Here we go.

The giant arcana coaster project that I never intended to be a project, lol!  The first two rows are the finished ones that are woodburned and ready to go.  The next two rows are the ones I have sketched so that I can woodburn them.

From what I can gather (including Golden and P3 and such) there are… 25 cards?  (please correct me if I’m wrong)  I know Golden has 2 for Adachi, 1 for Marie, that adds to the standard social links.  And P3 has “the World” or “the Universe” and whatnot.

So at the moment there are 7 complete, 8 sketched, which leaves 10 more to go.  I do plan on selling these individually, mostly because I don’t think anyone would buy a full set, BUT I DO want to have ALL of them available before I start posting them on the store/taking it to conventions.

From a Persona 4 standpoint (since that’s my current SMT obsession though EVERYONE knows that) so far the major characters are done/in-progress (Souji/Yu, Yosuke, Chie, Yukiko, Kanji, Rise, Teddie, Naoto, Dojima, Nanako, Adachi – times 2, Margaret, Marie, and the entire Investigation Team – judgment, or “Seekers of Truth,” if you will).  I’m not sure how long this is going to take, but our first convention is Anime Detour and I’d like to have them there?

Fun fact:  So far the ones that have been the most troublesome are Chie, Naoto, and Adachi (Hunger/Lust), but mainly Chie and Naoto, because of the crazy details.

Oh!  Check out these links, yo  ^^

Very first mirror of the year  :)  Might as well be Pinkie Pie making a cute, silly face  ^^  Pinkie’s face is painted on the glass as she smushes her cheek against it.  Instead of painting in her hair and skin on the mirror I just left it as an outline.

On top of clocks and plushies and things there’s also mirrors available at our shop  ^^  Check out the links below.  As always, I do take commissions, and this mirror is available!
