Okay, this. I hate this. I really dislike the way the anime put Annie in this scene.
You can clearly see that she has a peaceful yet sad face with tears in her eyes in the anime, but that doesn’t express not even 1% of how she really felt, how hard it was to fake it all along the years and to fight Eren and Armin. She liked them. They were cool guys, Eren was funny and if you remember she smiled and wanted to show him the kicking fight style. And Armin, oh, Armin. He was nice to her, and she appreciated that, because she was lonely.
You may say she’s a bitch without feelings but I dare you to read the manga again and watch her expressions, because the anime makes her look like a bitch, and she’s not. There are a lot of scenes in manga you haven’t seen in anime.
Let’s continue, the second image, from the manga. It expresses her struggle for life, fear, oh Annie, have you seen her show fear? Not once. In this scene in the manga you can perfectly appreciate the fact she’s hurt, she’s lost and has fear.
She had to put the world as her entire enemy because her father said her so, she’s only 15 years old and she had to lie to everyone, and not get too close to anyone. And now, she can’t go back. She can’t fulfill her promise. For the first time in her whole life she doesn’t know what do to. Is this where it ends? All the lifes she’s taken away, all the lies she had to tell, all the effort…was it for nothing?
Conversely, I have not read the manga, yet I still got all of this. There is undoubtedly a lot more unsaid (from what I can tell) in the anime, but the subtlety was executed well, and I was still able to derive all of these thoughts about Annie.
I feel like I would have ached for her way less if things were as dramatic as this manga panel suggested. My heart was still in my throat when I thought Eren was going to kill her. I still feared for her - not because I’m a big Annie fan per say, but because I knew she was scared. It was wordless and wonderful.
my eyes are wide open, my face to the sky is that you i’m hearin’ in the tall grass nearby? momma, come find me before i do die hey, hey, momma, look sharp
This is the story of a geeky anime/gaming gal by the name of Chibi. Please fasten your seat belts and prepare for... some sort of ride? Oh! I love to write, and I also love doing crafty things. I go to conventions with my partner and sell woodburned things, clocks, mirrors, and more! So expect to see those on here too :)
