This right here is when I broke down.
Levi hands over the Recon Corps crest claiming it to be someone else’s just to help the soldier get some closure. It wasn’t his friends, it was Petra’s. We saw him looking over his squads bodies and we also see him looking upon the crest on Petra’s chest. It was the final piece of Petra that Levi had left before he effectively watched her die a second time. He willingly hands it over to a comrade to comfort him.
This man has lost everything in the space of not even 24 hours and yet he is willing to hand over the last piece of his squad, his friends, his family that he has left to help another person. So don’t ever fucking say that Levi doesn’t care or that he is an asshole with no emotions because Levi cares more than most of the fucking cast do put together. Just because he doesn’t break down into a heap of emotions on the floor doesn’t mean he isn’t hurting inside, because he really fucking is. He always, always puts others before himself and never questions it. You should be praising him as a fucking saint because he cares more than we’ll ever know.
I haven’t even seen the episode yet, but I always knew that Levi cared more than he let on, you could tell when he’s like, “Do you think he heard me?” When the one soldier died. He also held his hand, and we know that Levi doesn’t like blood and is a clean freak, but he held his hand and talked with him until he died.
Yes, he beat up Eren, we all know that, but like it or not he did that for a reason. It was either that or they were going to kill Eren. And we all know that a lot of these people don’t listen to reason (i.e. Armin trying to tell them not to shoot Eren and they decide to shoot him anyway until Pixis showed up).
That’s what I really like about Attack on Titan though. It’s really realistic to me. Like yes, you want the people in charge to understand that Eren can be trusted, at the same time it’s like, after seeing these titans destroy so much… why would they trust him? Especially when he lost control during that whole rock moving thing. We love Eren because we know he means well, but THEY certainly don’t know that yet, so it makes sense that they aren’t like, “Oh well let’s just go along with it,” they’re like, “Kill him now,” until someone steps in and shows them otherwise. Which is what Levi did.
Actually thinking about it, it’s not that Levi doesn’t show that he cares. I think he shows it all the time when it comes to his soldiers and whatnot. Just… he isn’t screaming or crying over it, which certainly doesn’t mean he doesn’t care. Him attacking the female titan so fiercely (from what I’ve seen from screencaps) and his horrified face when Petra’s father came to talk to him (again I only saw screencaps) definitely shows his emotions. So yeah, he cares.
