The Inner Workings of a Chibi.
Update

brichibiwritesthings:

Wow, haven’t updated this in a while.  Anime Central was definitely an experience.  A very good experience at that.  Our table did fairly well, I think, and I got a lot of compliments on my cosplay  :)

I also made some great connections in regards to our books.  Our table neighbors are doing an awesome, water color commission of two of our favorite characters from, “Hunters: Seeking the Storyteller.”  I will definitely post pictures when it’s done.  Also, an artist I really, really love and respect wants to do the cover art for our book and has offered to do promotional art for “Hunters” and for my book “Treat Me Kindly.”

By the way, I’m going to throw this out there while I’m still on an emotional high from people wanted to do art for my books, but I think it would be great to have such art at my table at conventions.  Having the book is one thing, and talking about it is great too, but if I have amazing images to back it up I think that would take it to a whole new level.  Postcards, bookmarks, or just art to sort of put on display would be great.  So if you’re an artist and are interested in something like that, let me know.  I’m still learning how the whole thing works, but I know for sure that I would definitely credit your work (and if you have business cards I’d definitely have them for people to take at cons)

Oh!  And here is a break down for the release of “Treat Me Kindly.”

June 1st:  Released on publisher’s site as ebook (Damnation Books)

Just 2nd:  Released on Amazon as ebook

2 - 3 weeks later:  Released as physical copy at select retailers (I’ll post the list when I know which ones)

Also, my short story “Press Start to Play” will be in Dreamspinner’s “Make a Play” anthology on June 1st as well.  You can either download the entire anthology, or the individual story itself.  Again, I’ll post links when it becomes available.

I’m going to go back to posting snippets of my books.  My temp job is over for about a month and a half, so that gives me time to work on commissions and advertise my books.

That’s all for now.  Have to get ready to head back to Minnesota.  Take care!

Hey followers, the writing blog is back in action as I talk about ACEN, book releases, and promotional art.  The book will be out in a few short weeks.  Who’s excited?

Story Snippet: Treat Me Kindly

brichibiwritesthings:

Wow, I’ve hit 100 posts, yay! Now that Anime Detour is over and new followers have been acquired, I thought I would post a new snippet to the book.  I’m in the first round of edits right now and am about halfway done  :)

Warnings:  Gruesome imagery

Scene:  From chapter six

Story so far:  Matthew Sharpton went to an animal auction and brought home a bird, but that bird has the strange ability to turn human.  She only asks that she is “treated kindly,” and then she will do the same for hew new master.  Unfortunately, Matthew’s father has other plans for the lovely Ms. Jazzmyn, but those plans don’t go the way he thinks they will.

It’s been a while, but here’s a new snippet from the book  :)

“Treat Me Kindly” first round edits

brichibiwritesthings:

In the process of editing the book, hoping to have it done early next week EVEN WITH DETOUR BEING THIS WEEKEND!  Yep.  I’m crazy.  I know.

But I’m in the second chapter already, that’s good right?  Here’s my favorite quote so far from Alex, the main character, to his friend Nicholas in regards to them ever having a chance at dating:

“Nick-Nack I’ve told you that if you grow breasts and stop standing in line at midnight for hard to pronounce video games I’ll give you a shot.”

We’re in the first round of book edits!  Follow the blog for more information :)

[Treat Me Kindly Snippet] It’s still Nicholas, Alex

Hello dear followers.  In case you missed it (though you probably didn’t because I keep spazzing about it) I am releasing a book.  It’s an urban supernatural crime thriller full of strange deaths that have been happening in the city where the only clue tends to be some sort of animal, or part of an animal (bird feathers, for example).  Today, I want to post a small snippet from the book.  Currently, it’s being assigned an editor, then that whole process can begin  :)

This is a small scene between two main characters:  Alex Sampson (the detective in charge of the strange murder case) and Nicholas Ryker (geeky friend extraordinaire)

Warnings for this snippet:  Friendly banter

Story up to this point:  A rock star has been found dead and the only clue is a small butterfly.

***

“Any word Nick-Nack?”

“It’s still Nicholas, Alex.”

Nicholas ‘Nick-Nack’ — it’s still Nicholas, Alex — Ryker sits at his computer, several windows open and showing different pictures of butterflies.  His eyes scan each box, closing the ones he doesn’t need and opening up five more in a matter of seconds.  At least, it would be seconds, if not for the outdated technology of the city’s finests.  What kind of officers of the law are they when they can’t even afford decent internet?

“Isn’t that it?”  Alex points at one of the butterflies on the screen, standing behind Nicholas now.

“No,”  Nicholas says, “That’s not the right shade of purple in its wings.”

“Looks like it to me.”

“Well it’s not.”

“How can you tell?”

Nicholas spins around in his computer chair to look up at Alex. He’s wearing a pair of large, black glasses, the thick frames wrapped around eyes that are bright like green Christmas lights.  His hair is a couple of different shades like browning autumn leaves, the strands sticking up thanks to a handful of hair gel.  A black and white striped shirt covers his thin build, tucked into a pair of crisp blue jeans.  He doesn’t look like he’s a part of the police force, his skin is smooth and the perfect shade of baby pink unlike Alex’s rough texture.  His hours are spent on the computer and he doesn’t have the ‘luxury’ of investigations, crime scenes, and living on energy drinks and packaged Japanese noodles.

“It’s too light, Alex,”  Nicholas says, voice laced with disdain, “God, didn’t you learn basic colors in elementary school?”

“Yeah.  Red blue and whatever the hell,”  then Alex smirks, “I know how you know the difference.  It’s because you’re-”

“Gay.  Yes.  Yes I am gay and I know colors.”

Alex attempts to ruffle Nicholas’ hair and fails, the gel forcing him to smash the molded hair down like a crispy pancake.  It springs back up as soon as Alex moves his hand away, “Damn, how do you get your hair like that?”

Nicholas smiles, “It’s a secret amongst us gay men.  If you join the club I’ll let you know.”

“Nick-Nack I’ve told you that if you grow breasts and stop standing in line at midnight for hard to pronounce video games I’ll give you a shot.”

Nicholas sighs and says it again.  “It’s still Nicholas, Alex.”

*gasp*  Can this be?  A scene from my book?  You bet!  Be sure to follow the writing blog for more snippets from my book and other upcoming projects.  Tell your friends.  Tell the dog.  Tell the mailman.  Tell everyone!  But especially the puppy because I love puppies  ^^;;;
