The Inner Workings of a Chibi.
Second time this month we had to put a cat down. I had better words for this on my facebook but… I’m kinda worded out now. So, love you Isis, both of your mommies will miss you.

OH MY GOD IN THE LAST GIF THO THE DOG CATCHES THE KITTY WHEN SHE BEGINS TO FALL AND HELPS SET HER DOWN SAFELY

A story about the two cats my partner and I have that I think is really interesting. We’ve had them both for years, but Isis (black and white cat) was the first and we got Loki (brownish cat) later.

A few months ago, my partner woke up from a weird dream she had.  In it, she said that two cats were in the house with us, but along with them was this third cat that – clearly – wasn’t ours, because we only have two.  It was sort of like a ghost kitty?  Not harmful or anything, just there, like a normal cat.  I kinda shrugged it off, because my partner has weird dreams like that sometimes.

After coming back from a convention in September, we noticed that Isis wasn’t eating as much.  In fact, she was actually letting Loki eat before her.  As the weeks passed, Isis was eating less, and was even letting Loki eat her share of the food.  She was also letting Loki sleep in bed with us, opting to sleep in this little corner of the bedroom.  It was a bit strange, but we thought that it was good that Loki was able to be around us more and that Isis was letting her.

Cue to a week ago and we find out from the vet that Loki is really sick and we have to put her down.  After coming home without Loki, Isis starts to sleep on the pillow where Loki use to sleep when she would wander into the living room.

That’s when we realized all of the signs.

I think Isis knew that Loki was sick and that she wouldn’t be around much longer.  So she was being nicer to here, letting her eat, and – to a certain extent – letting her eat her share of the food as a way to try and help her somehow.  She also let her sleep in the bed with us, I think, to give her some time with us.  Before, Isis was always the cat in the bed and Loki would sleep downstairs somewhere.  Suddenly, she was sleeping on my partner’s pillow, which is where Isis use to sleep.  And the third “ghost kitty?”  I think that was a sign, too, of what was to come – especially since we plan on getting another cat at some point.

Some time has passed and we took Isis to the vet today.  She’s having liver problems and we were about to prepare for the worst, but as we spoke to the vet we told her about what we had done on Thanksgiving (of all days).  My partner and I were so desperate to get Isis to eat – since she flat out stopped after Loki passed away – that we gave her bits of the turkey I had made (first time making turkey, too).  Miraculously, Isis ate a piece.  Then another.  And another.  For the first time in a long while, she was eating!  Not only that, but she kept all of it down and drank the water in her bowl.  The fact that she had started eating, according to the vet, is an extremely good sign.  We were told to take her home, give her the medicine they prescribed, and try feeding her the turkey again (since she’s eating it).

So, we tried that today.  She ate half of her food – more than we’ve seen her do in all of the times we’ve tried feeding her – and, when we checked later, the rest of the food in her bowl was gone!

I realized in all of this that people aren’t the only ones who grieve for a loved one, but so do pets.  As much as I believe in my pets being part of my family, it seems that pets feel the same way.

I also realized, once again, that dreams definitely mean something.  And karma can be rather… interesting.  We lost Loki, then my partner got a free turkey in a raffle from her job.  I have never, in my life, made turkey, but it was free so I decided to give it a shot.  Not only did I make a good meal for Thanksgiving, but I ended up making the food that Isis finally started to eat after so much time of picking at food then not eating.

So… urm… there, have a random story about cats?  And dreams?  And karma?  And turkey?

Headcanon: In which there’s no logical reason to get attached to a cat, they don’t live as long as us… but…

So my partner and I just had to put our cat down.  This is the first time I’ve ever had to do something like this.  I mean, I’ve had pets die, but I was never there for it, it was something my dad had to go through then he’d come home to tell me.

So I wanted to write something about the situation.  A pet’s short life expectancy isn’t really something I’ve ever thought about, sort of childishly thinking that, you know, she’d live for a very long time with me, or that when it was her time to go I’d be in a place in my life where I’d be able to deal with it (to which is absolutely not true I’d never be ready but you get it)

O.K.  No more rambling, here’s the headcanon.

Let me tell you a story about Loki the Cat.  Many years ago, back when my partner’s parents weren’t quite o.k. with us being together, back when I was still “the roommate” and all that, around Christmas time we decided that instead of going to her family Christmas, we were going to go and pick out a cat together.  We went to the humane society, both found a cat that we liked, sat in a room with her and randomly said, “Hey Loki,” and she walked right over and meowed.  That’s when we knew that we had found our cat.

Loki is one of the first things we got together as a couple.  In fact, she might be the first besides like, the first couple of apartments we had.  We picked her as a couple as a sort of silent “screw you” to the people who didn’t accept us.  Over the years, those people came around, and as we had to put Loki down tonight I realized something.  The vet said she had been sick for a while, but she didn’t seem like it.  Though even if she was sick, I realized that she actually held on long enough for the whole Vote No thing to happen.  It sort of feels like, we got her as a couple, and she left us as the state decided that limiting our right to marry is stupid.  So… thank you for staying around long enough for that, Loki.

Now, Isis (our first cat) is sitting in the spot she use to sit in, and I think that deep down, Isis knew.  I mean, the two of them got along o.k., but for the past couple of weeks Isis has been doing little things like letting Loki eat/get the water first, which she use to not do.  So I think she knew.

So this post is to say farewell to Loki the Cat.  We both love you, sweetie, and try not to be too much of a pest where you’re going… because you can be a pest sometimes, you know?  Don’t eat ALL of the soft food, share with the other cats sometimes, and don’t yodel in the middle of the night because it’s not cute, it’s annoying.

My second cat, Loki, has kidney failure.  Going to the vet to talk about our options, but… yeah  :(

This raccoon never left the side of a cat who was dying of a tumor. The cat was comforted for the final hours of her life by her long time friend.

sweet baby jesus.

That last one.  The raccoon gently petting the cat.  The look on the cat’s face.  The look on the raccoon’s face.  The raccoon looks so sad, petting the cat with this look of, “I don’t want you to leave me, but I’ll be here with you and make you feel comfortable, because you shouldn’t be in pain when you go.”  And the cat has her eyes closed like, “Thank you.  That does feel nice.  I feel like I can rest quietly next to you.”

Animals are so amazing, but wow, this is both sweet and sad to look at  :(

The Day in the Life of Chibi (that’s me!)

Am I the only person who has two cats and feels like she has to yell at them like they’re children?  "ISIS!  Stop chasing your sister!“  And, "Loki!  Knock off the hissing!”  Though it’s fun watching them run around on a hardwood floor, especially Loki, who isn’t pudgy like Isis so she slides all over the place I mean, stop it cats, bad cats!

this is why I can never has babies
