I am super excited for the new Sailor Moon, so I wanted to share some pictures I don’t think I’ve shared yet.  When I decided to do asieybarbie’s version of Neo Queen Serenity, I had to add buns to the wig I got.  So here’s how that whole thing happened  ^__^

1.  Got some blonde hair pieces from Sally’s Beauty Supply (blonde/light blonde works best since the color is going to be changed)

2.  Got two sharpies that matched to the color of the wig then started to color to make sure it stuck to the hair.  It did ^__^.

3.  Colored the heck out of the hair with the sharpie.

4.  Once a bit of the hair was colored I made sure it matched the wig after it was dry.

5.  When done (and the hair was dry), my partner and I pinned it to the wig to see what it would look like.

6.  Once we were pleased with it, we took a round hair bun (the ones you use to create a bun with your hair) and put the newly color hair around it to make a solid bun.  The wifey then sewed the hair to the bun so that it would stay.  After that, she hot glued some comb pieces so it could be put into the wig.

7.  Ta da  :)

Extra note:  Your fingers will get messy, but don’t worry, you can get it off your hands pretty easily with just soap and water.  Also, I recommend coloring by sections, and when you’re done go back in to check parts you missed.  Be sure to flip the hair piece over to get the back side of the hair, and check the inner top parts too.  I actually ended up only needing one sharpie, but get two just to be safe because I worked that one sharpie to death.

Hi everyone!

I want to bring your attention to the #notacosplayer project run by Eddie of Food and Cosplay (facebook, tumblr).

Pretty angry at those photos right? Yeah, me too. The top one is me and six of the other cosplayers are extremely close friends of mine. (I’ve tagged their pages if you click on the photos!)

#notacosplayer is here to tackle the bullying within the cosplay community and especially that from outside. A lot of people, too many people believe that you have to be a thin, white woman with large boobs and an incredibly attractive face to be “allowed” to cosplay, and then what? If you are you’re brandished a slut/whore, a fake geek and only doing it for male attention. Yes there are a small handful of people who do infact cosplay for attention and have no interest in the characters, but for the people with a genuine love of what they’re doing, this is massively hurtful.

Comments like the ones above are received on a daily basis for a lot of cosplayers, whether it be a sly remark from another convention goer, on a facebook page where “well its just a picture on the internet” or some other form of online forum, the comments are read and they’re upsetting.

Cosplayers spend countless hours picking costumes, hunting down where the best place to get them from is or locating the most realistic parts for a costume. They send off designs and reference to commissioners to ensure that their piece is perfect and just how they want it, constantly giving feedback and input on their item. Some other cosplayers spend hours and hours slaving away with cuts and burns to create something they’re proud of and love.

They take a picture and hang it with absolute pride at how awesome they look, how they replicated their favorite character in their own way. They show it to their friends who all say how awesome it is and they share it around.

And for what?

Definitely not for some random person off the internet to feel the need to comment and chip in, ignoring every ounce of effort and accuracy on a costume. Friend, you found this image probably because you’re a fan of what I’m cosplaying from, could you comment on my costume please?
No, straight for the jugular, right in the “you’re not good enough to cosplay because…”

“You’re #notacosplayer because…”

Well I am. And Everyone else who says their a cosplayer is a cosplayer. The rules of cosplay aren’t written on attractiveness or likeness, they’re written on costume play.

So stand proud guys. Bullying will not be tolerated anymore. Share your stories and lets stop this horrible taboo where we never speak about the nasty comments we receive. Its a major part and its driving out incredible members of our community. Negativity won’t be tolerated anymore.

You’re all amazing and incredible and you can do whatever you set your mind to. Don’t let these comments put you off doing that dream character or starting cosplaying. Stand up proud and where that costume, show bullies and negativity that you don’t care…

YOUR FABULOUS.

You know it’s kind of funny, actually.  Growing up, I absolutely hated dresses and make up.  Now I feel odd if I’m not getting up early in the morning and doing make up while everyone else is sleeping, or wearing a giant ballgown of some sort at a convention and trying to figure out how to maneuver around in a hoop skirt :)

The main cast of Free!, cosplayed by one person. Which in this case is me, hahah.

This series of photos has been an exercise for me to improve my versatility. I thought it would be a fun challenge to try cosplaying characters from a single series and attempt to look different as each one, and also improvising with stuff I already have. I chose Free! because I happened to have similar wigs and clothing already, and I’ve just been enjoying that anime a lot lately. (I hurt myself laughing every week) The characters also have very strong and contrasting personalities, so it was just what I needed!

I talk a bit about the process behind each one on my individual posts on my Facebook page, but I might do a more in-depth blog explaining each one on my deviantART! Hope you’ll watch out for it!

These were just improvised but I do plan on doing proper Free! cosplay. My friends are game for it too so it’s going to be fun being #H2Osexual together.

And yes, those are my natural teeth. I have these pseudo-fangs which I like, but I don’t usually have reasons to show them off!

xoxo,
Jin

This is impressive as hell!
