I swear the only time I even think about make up is when I want to cosplay.  Thankfully we have a Halloween store nearby that believes in green lipstick.  Going to be Tiana all weekend for Geek.Kon.  The normal dress will be Friday, then the armored one will be Saturday, and Sunday will be like… plain clothes/maybe a cute dress or something Tiana  ^^  Got green lipstick just cuz I felt like it, I also have green eye shadow and nail polish.

It’s kinda funny that I only think about this stuff for cosplay.  My mom is like, “OMG YOU KNOW HOW TO USE MAKE UP?!”  And I’m like, “Of course mother, I am a woman… of cosplay.”

Someone suggested that I take a stab at Merida.  I hadn’t considered it before, but then I saw that she had a Jim Shore style outfit.  I’ve done this before (as seen in the picture ^^) My partner made me a ridiculously gorgeous Belle dress based on a Jim Shore statue we have, and now I can do it for Merida.  Originally I was thinking of doing Tiana, but it would be fun doing a completely new cosplay.

That and we, randomly, have a Merida wig in our wig collection in the basement  O.o  I tried it on and it doesn’t look super stupid like I thought it would, sweet!

So this is everything I have left out of my cosplay stuff.

Over this past week I was at a horse camp that was over night, so I wasn’t home.

My mom went through everything I had cosplay related and smashed, broke, and generally destroyed most of what I had. She then threw tons away. This is all I have left.

Making these things and being so involved in the fandoms through cosplay has prevented me from self harming and suicide so much and now I don’t know what to do…

She agreed that if I get 5,000 notes, she’ll let me start making things again. Guys, I’m so terrified. I need help.

She did this because at Charlotte Con I bought a shirt that had Spock on it and it said Spock You. I can’t even believe this. I’ve thrown up twice, and I can’t stop crying.

It would mean the world to me to get to 5,000 notes. I need this.

That is SO wrong. You need to get 5,000 notes. that is just..not even right. Such fucking bullshit. Better tell your mom to get the sewing machine ready because you’re getting those notes.

We’ll get you your notes. I usually don’t reblog these things but this. Like KK said. tell your mom to get the sewing machine ready.

your mom better be ready to help you remake every fucking thing she broke. how dare she do that to something that has saved your life and means so much to you. that fucking disgusts me

Is there an update on this with 10,000+ notes? I hope she was able to get creating again!

That’s just… oh god reading it made me feel sick to my stomach. Parents, seriously, if you have an issue with your kid cosplaying, this is NOT the answer.  Talk to them, not AT them, but to them, and have a discussion about what they’re passionate about.  Learn about it, and then you can see that there’s NOTHING wrong with it.

This is what my parents did with me.

My mom doesn’t even like anime, but she actually gave it a chance.  She would watch it with me and try it before judging it, and even if she didn’t like it, she saw nothing wrong with me liking it.  She also saw how it opened up my creativity, fuck if it weren’t for fanfiction my book wouldn’t be here.  So she appreciates it for that.  Same with my dad, who played video games with me, and watched me play them.  I understand that not everyone’s parents like what they do, but hey, my parents like that it makes me happy, and I’m not hurting anybody with it.  And they think it’s so cool that I’m trying to make something out of this whole writing/cosplay/crafting thing.  So even if my mom doesn’t get me spazzing about Attack on Titan, she sees my cosplay pictures and loves them, loves how creative we are, and is like, “You guys are weird and not normal, but normal is boring.”

So parents, it’s actually not hard to try and learn about what your children are into.  Just because you don’t understand it, doesn’t mean it’s bad, or wrong, and it sure has hell doesn’t mean you go in and DESTROY what they’ve worked on!  Never, ever do that.  Not only is it going to upset them, but it’s going to make them dislike you and, worst of all, not trust you.

Hey everyone!  I’ve entered my Princess Tiana cosplay in a cosplay competition.  This is the first time I’ve done something like this  :)  If you like my Tiana cosplay, feel free to head over and give it a like/vote.  Thanks a lot, everyone  :)

You know what, ladies? Sometimes, the princess just has to save herself.

In which I ramble about cosplay

I know emotions are running high after Heroes of Cosplay and all. I haven’t seen it yet because I don’t have the channel, but I’ve heard things. Yes, it’s true that cosplay isn’t all about competing (but honestly I know people who have competed and it IS stressful as hell). At it’s core, cosplay is about having fun, being yourself, and enjoying the experience.

However.

Bashing the people who appear on the show isn’t going to do anything. Don’t vent out your frustrations by calling the people on the show ugly names, or thinking that they aren’t “real heroes of cosplay,” because they’re on the show. Yaya Han isn’t a bad person for wanting to put herself out there and show people what she loves to do. She hasn’t betrayed you, or anything like that. If you’ve met her in person you know how much she loves cosplay and loves her fans.

A good example I have is this. As a plus sized cosplayer, I am thankful for the support and for the people who enjoy my cosplay and encourage me to do more despite what negative folks may say. However, don’t encourage me by bashing skinny cosplayers. Don’t say things like, “You look so much better than so and so” or tell skinny girls not to cosplay certain characters because “that character is plus sized, that’s ours.” You want to be able to cosplay who you want, right? That goes for skinny cosplayers too, you can’t just exclude them because you want to be included.

Or, don’t tell a white girl not to cosplay Anthy (in case you don’t know she’s a black anime character from “Revolutionary Girl Utena”) if she loves the character, or tell a white girl that she can only cosplay Lottie but not Tiana because Tiana is “the black Disney princess.” It’s not about race or size, it’s about creativity and emulating the character you love. If we can accept female characters cosplaying male characters, that means this should be open to all aspects of cosplay: men cosplaying women, plus sized cosplaying skinny (or vice versus), black cosplaying white (or vice versa), handicapped cosplayers, ect.

So this goes for the show too. Don’t make yourself (or others) feel better about cosplay by bashing the cosplayers on the show. They’re people, too, and they work hard just like we do. You can, however, complain about the show for the normal reality TV show drama edits, or when the producer says something silly like, “male characters are easy to cosplay because all they have is armor and spandex,” and things like that.

So, inspired by this person I want to try this too.  Give me a character name, from anything (anime, manga, book, movie, etc) and I’ll draw a dress based on them.

Come one, challenge me ^_^

Give her ideas so I can have more cute things to cosplay  ^^

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-?!  O.K. even if you’re saying they’re simpler, what the hell body armor and weaponry and spandex and cape have YOU been looking at lately?!  And urm… that’s all stuff female characters wear too.

O.K. you know what, let’s take that “simple” part out completely because the minute you think any costume is simple as a cosplayer you’ve already screwed yourself.  In fact, personally, it’s the simple characters that I think are the most complicated to pull off, because their outfits aren’t really distinguishable unless if you can nail their hair or face or their mannerisms.  ”Let’s do school girl/school boy so and so,” yeah that’s fine but there’s about a zillion characters like this in anime so you better have a damn good wig or nail that pleated skirt or those little annoying checker marks in the Persona 4 Yasogami High collars and just… yeah.

Good example.  L’s not simple, that’s the mistake you make.  ”Just a white shirt and jeans and messy hair,” no.  If you don’t nail that hair, or the baggy eyes, or the weird way he sits, and if the shirt isn’t baggy enough it’s not going to look right.  That and if it’s a popular series where you’re going to see 57 Ls walking around, what’s going to set you apart from the others?

So nothing is simple, male or female, so just stop.  Way to discriminate against a particularly large group of cosplayers when you’re trying to get them to watch your show.

I just love how this ignorant moron managed to sneak two sexist ideals into one uneducated statement. By saying female’s costumes are more interesting because they are “sexier” that implies that he only likes cosplaying to see women in revealing outfits. Okay, if a woman is in an outfit like that, DID YOU EVER THINK THAT IT JUST MIGHT BE HER FAVORITE CHARACTER AND THAT SHE’S NOT ACTUALLY DOING IT JUST FOR ATTENTION?! And for guys, apparently all we know how to do is hammer things, paint our chests for football, eat chicken wings and scratch ourselves. There’s no possible way that us men can have an elaborate, accurate costume right? I’d hate to see what this asshole thinks about Plus Sized Cosplayers. Are we not as “interesting” because our body type isn’t the same as a pixelated fictional character? So much is wrong with this statement that it actually makes me NOT want to continue to watch Heroes of Cosplay, even though I did enjoy it for the most part. People need to educate themselves and stop looking at cosplay as a one gendered, one sized hobby. I’m so sick of all the hate for males, females, plus sized, colored, whatever the fuck cosplayers. WE’RE ALL JUST COSPLAYERS PLAN AND SIMPLE. /endrant
