The Inner Workings of a Chibi.

brichibiwritesthings:

So I’ve been trying to get something in a Dreamspinner Anthology for a while.  Last year, nothing made it, but this year I saw that they were doing a sports anthology.  I thought, “I’m gonna write about video games,” because… I’m a geek.

And holy shit it worked.

So I’m reposting this because it comes out in a month and my video game short story will be in it!  It’s a tale of gay romance, video game stereotypes and the people who happily turn them upside down.  It’s got all sorts of fun video game references, because video gaming is a sport, right?  You can either get the entire anthology, or buy the stories individually in June.  Mine is called “Press START to Play.”

Below is a story description and a small snippet where I make mention of my obsession a game series I like  ^^

Description:  Lukis Singleton’s once-popular sports column is fading fast, thanks to the terrible track record of the local football team.  In an attempt to save the column, Lukis’s editor, John, decides that he needs to go in a different direction.  Video games are all the rage these days, so John insists that sending Lukis to a huge video-game tournament in Los Angeles will shake up his current readers and bring in new ones.  Lukis isn’t thrilled about reporting of games with impossible powers or gamers who still live in Mon’s basement, but then he meets a tempting flaw in the game stereotypes of unwashed man-children.  Aaron Sanders is a gorgeous breath of fresh air at the tournament who takes Lukis’s less-than-stellar view of gamers and turns it on its head, leaving Lukis to wonder if if might be worth being Aaron’s player two.

Snippet:

Lukis wonders, as he watches the intro video, why high school students are even allowed to fight with swords and strange monsters that they can summon. Don’t they have parents? And since when can bears talk, fight, and smoke cigars? Was that a robot just now? With an axe?

“Told ya it was completely different,” Aaron says, picking some kid who uses a gun and has some sort of fly as a monster friend.

It’s still exciting to watch, he thinks. Aaron’s character is fighting against some tall, buff guy who uses a folding chair as a weapon, it makes no sense at all; who brings a chair to a gunfight?

***

Yes I made a kannao reference in something I’m getting published.  I realize I have a problem.  No I do not wish to seek help thanks though.

In which my OTP makes an appearance in my original writing.  Yeah.

Here it is!  The pre-sale for the anthology I wrote for is now up!  Follow the link for prices on the entire anthology and/or the individual stories.  Yay!

To celebrate, here’s a fun snippet:

This next game, Lukis realizes, is a rather strange one.  He doesn’t bother trying to play.  Instead, he watches as Aaron fights against someone else.  Lukis wonders, as he watches the intro video, why high school students are even allowed to fight with swords and strange monsters that they summon.  Don’t they have parents?  And since when can bears talk, fight, and smoke cigars?  Was that a robot just now?  With an axe?

Hey everyone, check it out!  This is for the short story I wrote in Dreamspinner Press’ upcoming sports anthology.  It’ll go on pre-sale next week, so I’ve been given permission to share the cover image and the story blurb.

It was a ton of fun writing this.  There are quite a few geeky nods all throughout the story, from Marvel vs. Capcom, to Street Fighter, and even some Persona 4 Arena.  Fighting games are one of my favorite video game genres, so as soon as I saw “sports theme” I thought “fighting game tournament.”

Lukis is the naysayer, the “games are stupid” character.  But Aaron is all “games are awesome” and breaks all of Lukis’ stereotypes since he’s attractive and social.  The main point of this story is to show that us gamers aren’t just a bunch of anti-social children who can’t function, who still live with mom, and who waste their lives with a controller in their hand.  There’s so much more to video games, especially in this day and age, and on top of the gay romance is the theme of, “Don’t make assumptions about people because of what they do.  Don’t make assumptions about something until you try it yourself.”

I’ll post a link when the pre-sales start.  Until then, enjoy this snippet  :)

On top of my book “Treat Me Kindly,” there’s a short story coming soon! Remember to follow my writing blog for up-to-date information  :)  And yeah, Persona 4 fans you read that write, there’s a nod to the game in the story along with a bunch of other fighting games  ^^  I just couldn’t hep myself!

brichibiwritesthings:

Check it out, guys!  I’m working on a new story before “Treat Me Kindly” gets published!  Some may say I’m crazy, but… well I am crazy, but this was actually done some time ago and I’m just editing/snazzing it up before sending it to publishers.

This is a gay romance story that suddenly turned novel length (oops?)  It’s kinda got a crime thriller vibe, with some supernatural elements mixed in and a touch bit of horror?  There’s a brief description below followed by a snippet of the two main boys in the story and how they interact with one another  :)

Warnings:  Geekery, cute boys doing cute boy things, me trying to tempt you with my writing more

Brief synopsis:  When something tragic happens in your life you want nothing more than to close your eyes, go to sleep, and make all of the pain go away.  For Gable Peterson it’s a little more complicated than that.  When detective Maurice Ashford shows up at his door with news that his boyfriend, Avery Blair, has been found dead, Gable is left devastated.  Gable does the same thing he did when his grandfather died back when he was a little boy; he closes his eyes and imagines a world where his loved one is still alive.

Only, when Gable wakes up, he’s surprised to see that Avery is actually still alive!

Gable discovers something very peculiar about himself.  There’s a place inside of his head where another Gable Peterson exists. This other Gable tells him that he has the power to go back and keep Avery from dying.  Of course, Gable doesn’t believe anything that he’s hearing.

Until Avery dies for the second time.

Shortly after, Gable finds himself back at day one.  Now he’s more determined than ever to save his boyfriend.

But is it worth the hardship he’s about to face?

This isn’t just some accident that happens to Avery.  Gable’s boyfriend is murdered in cold blood by someone who the media has called “The Horrific Homophobe” or “The Double H Murderer.”  This killer roams the streets of Minneapolis, kidnapping gay men who turn up dead in a week’s time.  They’re not just brutally killed, there are derogatory words written all over their bodies in a terrifying display of the hell they had suffered through during the week.  Oddly enough, along with words like FAGGOT and QUEER and HOMO are compliments of nice eyes or beautiful smile and other charming words that have no business being anywhere near such hatred.  Gable suddenly finds himself tracking down a killer, but can he save Avery in time?

*gasp*  A new story has emerged!  Dun dun dunnnnn!

brichibiwritesthings:

You know, there’s something quite odd about dreams.  We all have them, you know?  We all have things we aspire to be “when we grow up,” and we spend so much time working to make those dreams come true.  We work hard to make things happen, and we face rejection, and we cry and we get up and we try again.  We’re told to keep trying, and we do, we keep going.

The confusion happens when those dreams actually start coming together, when they start to come true.

It’s an odd feeling, really, for this whole writing process to be going somewhere.  I’ve had a lot of rejections, to the point of just, you know, being prepared for them.  I always prepare for the no, so much so that I’m not quite sure how to comprehend the yes.  I’ve been hearing “yes” a lot lately, and I’m not quite sure what to do.  I’ve been getting a lot of “congratulations” and “it’s about time,” and it’s not like I don’t agree — I do — but… I’m so use to “no” that I feel at odds when I hear “yes.”

Dreams are coming true now, and I’m typing this feeling really emotional, and it’s frustrating because I don’t know how to explain it.  I mean, I know this is just a blank author’s page, but… it’s the start to something, something big, something I’ve always wanted and have worked so hard for…

… now that it’s here… what does one do?

Here’s the link to my Dreamspinner Press Author Bio.  Nothing is up yet because the story won’t be available until June, but it’s a big step.

So I can only work on my super smutty story “Voyeur something” at home for obvious reasons, so I was working on it tonight.  I thought I would end the evening with a snippet since the first part of it is close to being done  :)

Summary:  A series of three short stories that all link together with one main theme: voyeurism.  If all goes according to my plan, this will (hopefully) be a book series.  I have like… two books planned so far, well… two and a half, with notes written in a notebook

Warnings (for this snippet):  M/M romance, voyeurism, sex, whispers of masturbation

Warning number two:  If you follow this blog for the sweet and cute headcanons, uh… skip this post.  Or hey, if you’re into boy smut, feel free?  please don’t leave I’ll go back to fluffy puppies and cookies and innocent things soonish!

Dreamspinner Daily Dose News!

brichibiwritesthings:

Wow!  Um… didn’t expect to actually get followers that fast, you guys are awesome!  Anyway, I wanted to share some news.  I may have mentioned it on my normal tumblr, but now I have a few more details.

I wrote a short story that’s going to be featured in an upcoming Daily Dose for Dreamspinner, a really cool gay romance publisher.  It should be out in June  :)  The way a Daily Dose works, from my understanding, is that there’s a story for every day of the month.  You can either purchase the entire set of stories, or just purchase one or a few, whatever you want (I’ll of course post links when it’s available).

This is a great lesson in thinking outside the box.  The prompt was something sports themed, so I decided to write a story that involved video game tournaments  ^^  Because, you know, those tournaments are serious business.  That isn’t sarcasm, mind you, I really mean it.  They ARE serious business.  Thousands of people competing, the amount of training that goes into it: learning a character’s techniques, combos, flaws and strengths, how to fight against others… and you can’t possibly predict how other players will go into a match.  I couldn’t help but make the “sports” comparison, so that’s what I did.

I enjoy video games, I always have since I was about 6.  This was back in the 80s, so video games were still this sort of newish thing.  They’ve come a very, very long way, and sometimes I have this cool feeling of having seen them, well… grow up?  We’ve come a long way from classic Nintendo, Mario, and Duck Hunt.  The whole “sports theme” idea got me thinking about video games because there’s people who still see them as this huge waste of time.  There’s still this awful stigma with them that is completely untrue.  I really do see them as offering the same entertainment value as like, sports, and movies, and books, and all that stuff.  There’s just as much work that goes into them, and people get just as involved — and there’s nothing wrong with that :)

Today I finished my biography for Dreamspinner, so this really is going to happen!  I’ve never worked with a publisher before, so this is a good learning experience.  I do plan on writing more things to try and get published with them, because I really like how their team works.  They seem very patient, and encouraging (I’ve submitted a few times last year but nothing made the cut, but they were always encouraging in wanting me to keep trying, and were actually willing to go through what could be improved).  So, come June, I’ll have a geeky, gay romance story out there.  I hope you guys are looking forward to it  :)

News from my writing blog  ^^

New review written on a comic series I got to read, for those of you who likes boys who like other boys (or who just want to have a good laugh)  ^^

[Original story snippet] Voyeur-something

In which I remember the time I was planning a ridiculously porny male/male series of short stories where one of them, once upon a time, had been a fic.  This is just a snippet.  Should I continue this?

Warnings:  … if you couldn’t tell from the title… um… smut.  Lots of smut.  Lots of male on male smut, so if you’re not into that please skip this post and enjoy my normal rebloggings of Persona and things.

Extra Notes:  This isn’t what I was working on for Nanowrimo, that’s a completely different story.  So I’m suddenly doing like, three stories at once (since my partner and I have an original series we’re doing together too).  It’s not too tricky to balance all of them at once, mostly because this story here is the, “Suddenly the muses are horny, time to write more of this story,” and the other story, “Double H,” is the, “I feel like being angsty let’s write some of that,” and my partner is writing the original story and I only have to edit it and add little details to things  ^^

… o.k. it is tricky I’m just crazy.
