Things I want.
My childhood struggle. My grandmom didn’t give one single solitary fuck about the whiplash she was giving me. And when she tried to comb through…don’t even get me started. Let’s just say, I cried REAL THUG tears.

Broken combs, tears, migraine headaches, almost missing the bus doing this shit in the morning… LORD!
Dont forget getting popped with the brush or comb because of moving !!
don’t forget about having to slap your scalp because your braids were too goddamn tight to scratch
the struggle is so real…smh Do we even want to talk about neck/side of the head burns from the hot comb?
my mom burned my ear so many times because of the hot comb ;3;
whenever i cried she would rap my scalp with the wide tooth comb she was using to part my hair and call me ‘tenderheaded’

So, so many memories here ;__; That hot comb comment, oh lord, hot combs. You hold your ear and watch that comb on the stove being engulfed in flames and you pray you don’t get burned. Then the times you got burned (back of the ear, neck, ect.) it was, “Beauty is pain,” or, “Everybody gets burned at least once."
Don’t get me started on perms. "DON’T SCRATCH YOUR HEAD BECAUSE YOU’RE GETTING A PERM TOMORROW” they say, which just makes it itch more.
And braids. Braids. BRAIDS! My aunt use to crotchet them into my hair. Yes, you read that right. You braid your hair then here comes the sewing of those crinkly, cute braids, and just… omg.
Although I admit one of the most fun things about having a white girlfriend is having these conversations and seeing the perplexed look on her face. Like, crotchet, like sewing into your hair?! Yes dear, that’s exactly what I mean.
I’m having a debate with myself because my mom is coming to visit in a month and I’m debating hair things. Because she can do hair things. Like I’m really REALLY use to having straight hair, and she can relax it and do that. OR I can keep up this natural thing, which on some days I love to pieces and others I’m like, “Neeeeeed to flat iron nooooow!” HOWEVER! If I keep the natural it means she can put like a fun color in it (because you cannot relax and color at the same time) I do love colors <3
In the meantime here have two different looks from me, the fun part is that these looks are in the same year ^^
Hi everyone! Trying something new. I decided to embrace my natural hair for some pictures. I’ve been slowly trying to build my confidence about my natural hair and wearing it the way it is. It’s really, really hard not to work on auto pilot and slick it back into a pony tail, or wear a hat, or straighten it. So I thought I’d wear my Belle dress and take pictures. I felt the whole Belle/Beauty thing would be fitting. That, and I’ve been wanting to get good pictures in this dress.
The dress is, of course, made by my wifey (as always). She also took the pictures, right in our backyard :) I thought that since Peach went over so well (which was my actual hair and not a wig, which is what I was going to do) I would try this :) I was a little nervous, but I think the pictures turned out really good ^^

“Do I get stress headaches at work? Yes, definitely. From the moment I get in, it’s “Denise we need this! Denise we need that!” Which is stressful… ‘cause my name is Linda. Denise is the other black woman that works here. By 10am, someone in the copy room makes a joke about Kobe Bryant, and everyone looks at me to make sure it’s ok. And I smile like it’s ok. But really, my head and neck are starting to throb. Then I spend the rest of my afternoon training my interns, and answering their questions, like, “Yes, black people use shampoo”, and, “No, I don’t know any good reggae clubs around here”, and, “Yes, Condoleezza Rice is very articulate, why do you sound so surprised?” And, “No, I can’t tell you where to buy weed!” And that’s when I reach for Excedrin.”

Actually that hair thing has happened to me. I went to college (ah good ol’ Iowa State) with micro braids and I was the only black girl on my floor. The questions. Man, oh man, the questions.
I wore my Sonic dress to Metacon today and curled up my hair. I took pictures because my hair actually looks like decent what? No way! If it stays obedient, I may do the same thing for Princess Peach tomorrow? I mean I know her hair is long but… curls…
