What dream? What future? It’s you who cares about all that, I’m not you! I don’t have any of that!
Also (since I have so many thoughts on this episode) shout out to Free! for showing this kind of situation. Sometimes, people see so much in us (Rin seeing the potential in Haru), and people want us to go so far and know we can. However, sometimes, we’re just not ready for that, sometimes its too much to handle, and sometimes we just break.
This is probably a particularly hard blow for Rin because he’s said time and time again that Haru and the others have saved him. Without Haru, he wouldn’t even be swimming right now. So to see someone you’ve placed on such a high pedestal snap and say something like, “I’m not like you,” and, “What future,” and other such words is painful as hell.
But honestly, Haru is speaking the truth. Just because everyone is ready for him to take that next step doesn’t mean that he is, and that much pressure can really, really effect you. And let’s face it, high school is when you’re expected to know what you want to do, not just after high school, but for the rest of your life. You’re supposed to have a plan for yourself, but that’s not the case for Haru. Hell, that’s not the case for a lot of people. So, you know, kudos to the show for taking the most gifted person and having him say, “I don’t have a plan, o.k.?!”

Haruka's Nightmare
All right all feels aside, honestly? This was such a great way to show what panic feels like, and how it feels to be so pressured. What hurts the most is when you’re pressured to do something you love doing.

“I just want to swim with my friends”
This makes me so sad, not just for Haru, but for Rin, too. Rin’s been trying to make both of his dreams work: making it to nationals and swimming with his friends, and what’s the one thing Sousuke told him before?
He can’t make both work.
And Haru just snapped at him and said he just wants to swim with his friends, that he’s not like him at all. So I bet Rin’s thinking… that you really can’t do both, can you? If the person who helped him so much last year feels like this, then…

I don’t want to be sad anymore, I want to talk about how baby Makoto was smaller than baby Haru.
I want to talk about Makoto always hiding behind Haru because he was bigger and could protect him from monsters. I want to talk about how even as they grew older Makoto never grew out of this habit. I was to talk about Haru realizing that his best friend is getting bigger than him and starting to doubt whether or not he could still protect Makoto. I want to talk about Makoto getting scared and hiding behind Haru even tho Makoto is much bigger than him and how silly it probably looks, but Haru just lets out a sigh of relief because no matter how much bigger Makoto gets he is still the same.

Took a break from commissions to do some coasters just for fun, so I did a set for Free! The coasters are based on the club outfits from the ending (except for Rin since he’s not at the club, lol). These will be for sale on my Etsy page, I just have to make the listing for them :) I decided to do their clothes because they’re so fun and colorful, just, come on butterfly with pink sleeves with yellow polka dots how could I not!

What the shit Haruka
What the shit this whole show
but i love it anyway
Seriously guys, I wonder if Haruka’s parents realize what they did that day. They sealed their sons fate. They lost him to the mistress that is the water. That’s why they don’t live in that house with him, they’ve accepted the fact that Haruka only has one true guardian: the water.
We’re going to be at two conventions this month, Geek.Kon and Metacon, which means that its time to get some stuff made for the table. This time, I thought I’d post some before and after pics. The first pic is how the clock starts then the last is how it looks after I draw and paint on it. This is Haruka’s jacket and shirt from the Free! ending, “Splash Free.”
