My mother in law tried on my Countess G dress from Gankutsuou to take some pictures with us and totally rocked it!
This is my 60 year old mother. I hope I have this much sass at 60 <3
That moment when your mothers hang out with you for a girl’s night out and you realize how close your family really is now <3
I’m sharing this because dear god o.k.? Dear god this is my mother. My mother is 60 today. 60!
Dear fucking god I hope I age this well Jesus Christ!
I actually think this was pretty responsible. Rather than banning it outright, which would result in kids wanting to rebel even more, she offers it in her home where she can control the amount people drink. Good on ya, Mrs George. You’re a cool mom.
She also offered her daughter a condom when she was hooking up with a guy instead of freaking out and kicking the guy out of the house.
It’s kinda funny how she is simultaneously an out-there parent, yet not a bad one. She might actually understand that her daughter is a anger-ridden teenager who can’t be easily controlled and restricted, so instead of telling her what she can’t do, she tries to guide her to a safer decision. I’m not saying I’m 100% cool with how she executes it, but hey, not a bad parent when you think about it.
Real talk in high school when I started dating my boyfriend my mom told me she’d give me condoms because she did not want grandchildren. Apparently she did this with my older brother too. Like she knew sex would come up because that’s a thing that happens and instead of being like “OH GOD NO DON’T DO IT” she was like “O.K. you’re going to do it so just tell me when you’re ready and we’ll get stuff.”
Granted I didn’t end up sleeping with my boyfriend (or any boy) and ended up with a girl, but still, my mom was a realistic mom who didn’t make sex into this GOD AWFUL THING NEVER DO IT NEVER or WAIT UNTIL YOU’RE MARRIED because you know, that’s not what she did. And love is important yes but you know what sex is too. You want to be with a person you enjoy it with, whether you’re having sex, or you’re asexual and just in tune with one another, that sort of thing is something you want to know about BEFORE you get married.
My mom just warned me that, you know, she got pregnant her first time and if I wanted to do it to be safe about it. I guess back then guys had some ridiculous excuses for not using protection, and they probably do now too, so she was like, “No we’re getting you condoms just say the word.” I went to a high school with girls who had sex, and talked about it, and it was unavoidable. So instead of being like “No no no no no” my mom was like “well o.k. if you want but first we’re going to get things you need.” At the time I thought it was weird and kinda embarrassing because, it was my mom, but looking back I’m glad I had a realistic mom who may not have wanted me to be sexually active in high school, but knew I would do what I wanted to do, and instead of demonizing it to just be real about it.
Which, in turn, made me not as anxious to do it? Like we talked about it like a normal thing, not this “Oooooo so taboo it must be good I should go out and do it,” sort of thing.
Same with alcohol, I’ve had sips of things at parties with family and usually found it gross, but when I was 21 my mom made me a strawberry daquiri which was delicious, and she was like, “Yeah some alcohol is good just be smart about it o.k.? Know your limits. But if you’re in the house with me, then I’ll be here to stop you from going overboard. Out there though, take it easy, because not everyone is going to look out for you.”
Someone on my mom’s facebook posted one of those classic “Video games are the root of all evil” articles. So I slammed into them… thoughtfully and nicely, of course. Someone responded in a negative way, of course, and their words would annoy me…
… had my mom not come in to say, “Stop attacking my baby video games aren’t evil.”
You go, mom. You go.
