Super special awesome bouncy excitement!  Expect lots of book posts from me this weekend since not only does the book come out, but so does my gay romance short story.  My current mental status is… indescribable ^^;;;

Is your book Treat Me Kindly YA or adult fiction? So far it looks like adult but you never know. Some YA books have been raising their ratings lately...
Anonymous

Hi there anon.  Thank you so much for asking about my book  :)  It’s definitely adult fiction, due to the content in the book.  The book my partner and I have going on, “Hunters: Seeking the Storyteller,” is more YA (at least the first book in the series, the others… I’m not so sure).

Thanks for the support!

Update

brichibiwritesthings:

Wow, haven’t updated this in a while.  Anime Central was definitely an experience.  A very good experience at that.  Our table did fairly well, I think, and I got a lot of compliments on my cosplay  :)

I also made some great connections in regards to our books.  Our table neighbors are doing an awesome, water color commission of two of our favorite characters from, “Hunters: Seeking the Storyteller.”  I will definitely post pictures when it’s done.  Also, an artist I really, really love and respect wants to do the cover art for our book and has offered to do promotional art for “Hunters” and for my book “Treat Me Kindly.”

By the way, I’m going to throw this out there while I’m still on an emotional high from people wanted to do art for my books, but I think it would be great to have such art at my table at conventions.  Having the book is one thing, and talking about it is great too, but if I have amazing images to back it up I think that would take it to a whole new level.  Postcards, bookmarks, or just art to sort of put on display would be great.  So if you’re an artist and are interested in something like that, let me know.  I’m still learning how the whole thing works, but I know for sure that I would definitely credit your work (and if you have business cards I’d definitely have them for people to take at cons)

Oh!  And here is a break down for the release of “Treat Me Kindly.”

June 1st:  Released on publisher’s site as ebook (Damnation Books)

Just 2nd:  Released on Amazon as ebook

2 - 3 weeks later:  Released as physical copy at select retailers (I’ll post the list when I know which ones)

Also, my short story “Press Start to Play” will be in Dreamspinner’s “Make a Play” anthology on June 1st as well.  You can either download the entire anthology, or the individual story itself.  Again, I’ll post links when it becomes available.

I’m going to go back to posting snippets of my books.  My temp job is over for about a month and a half, so that gives me time to work on commissions and advertise my books.

That’s all for now.  Have to get ready to head back to Minnesota.  Take care!

Hey followers, the writing blog is back in action as I talk about ACEN, book releases, and promotional art.  The book will be out in a few short weeks.  Who’s excited?

“Treat Me Kindly” first round edits

brichibiwritesthings:

In the process of editing the book, hoping to have it done early next week EVEN WITH DETOUR BEING THIS WEEKEND!  Yep.  I’m crazy.  I know.

But I’m in the second chapter already, that’s good right?  Here’s my favorite quote so far from Alex, the main character, to his friend Nicholas in regards to them ever having a chance at dating:

“Nick-Nack I’ve told you that if you grow breasts and stop standing in line at midnight for hard to pronounce video games I’ll give you a shot.”

We’re in the first round of book edits!  Follow the blog for more information :)

How to categorize success

brichibiwritesthings:

A conversation between me and my wifey this morning:

Me: If the book sells well I want to take you somewhere nice
Her: It might be kind of cute if it didn’t sell too well right away and you took me to like McDonalds
Me: LOL! But we want it to sell well!
Her: Of course we do! Just saying that it would be cute if the first check went to McDonalds
Me: All right! If it doesn’t sell too well, I’ll take you to McDonalds
Her: If it does good, you can take me to Wendys
Me: And we’ll sit inside and eat!
Her: And if it does amazingly well, you can take me to Culvers
Me: And if it hits bestseller status I’ll take you to either Five Gives or Red Robin… or Fat Burger in Vegas
Her: Sounds like a plan!

Yes we just categorized how to celebrate the book’s success by way of hamburgers.

This is a thing that happened this morning.

[Treat Me Kindly Snippet] It’s still Nicholas, Alex

brichibiwritesthings:

Hello dear followers.  In case you missed it (though you probably didn’t because I keep spazzing about it) I am releasing a book.  It’s an urban supernatural crime thriller full of strange deaths that have been happening in the city where the only clue tends to be some sort of animal, or part of an animal (bird feathers, for example).  Today, I want to post a small snippet from the book.  Currently, it’s being assigned an editor, then that whole process can begin  :)

This is a small scene between two main characters:  Alex Sampson (the detective in charge of the strange murder case) and Nicholas Ryker (geeky friend extraordinaire)

Warnings for this snippet:  Friendly banter

Story up to this point:  A rock star has been found dead and the only clue is a small butterfly.

***

“Any word Nick-Nack?”

“It’s still Nicholas, Alex.”

Nicholas ‘Nick-Nack’ — it’s still Nicholas, Alex — Ryker sits at his computer, several windows open and showing different pictures of butterflies.  His eyes scan each box, closing the ones he doesn’t need and opening up five more in a matter of seconds.  At least, it would be seconds, if not for the outdated technology of the city’s finests.  What kind of officers of the law are they when they can’t even afford decent internet?

“Isn’t that it?”  Alex points at one of the butterflies on the screen, standing behind Nicholas now.

“No,”  Nicholas says, “That’s not the right shade of purple in its wings.”

“Looks like it to me.”

“Well it’s not.”

“How can you tell?”

Nicholas spins around in his computer chair to look up at Alex. He’s wearing a pair of large, black glasses, the thick frames wrapped around eyes that are bright like green Christmas lights.  His hair is a couple of different shades like browning autumn leaves, the strands sticking up thanks to a handful of hair gel.  A black and white striped shirt covers his thin build, tucked into a pair of crisp blue jeans.  He doesn’t look like he’s a part of the police force, his skin is smooth and the perfect shade of baby pink unlike Alex’s rough texture.  His hours are spent on the computer and he doesn’t have the ‘luxury’ of investigations, crime scenes, and living on energy drinks and packaged Japanese noodles.

“It’s too light, Alex,”  Nicholas says, voice laced with disdain, “God, didn’t you learn basic colors in elementary school?”

“Yeah.  Red blue and whatever the hell,”  then Alex smirks, “I know how you know the difference.  It’s because you’re-”

“Gay.  Yes.  Yes I am gay and I know colors.”

Alex attempts to ruffle Nicholas’ hair and fails, the gel forcing him to smash the molded hair down like a crispy pancake.  It springs back up as soon as Alex moves his hand away, “Damn, how do you get your hair like that?”

Nicholas smiles, “It’s a secret amongst us gay men.  If you join the club I’ll let you know.”

“Nick-Nack I’ve told you that if you grow breasts and stop standing in line at midnight for hard to pronounce video games I’ll give you a shot.”

Nicholas sighs and says it again.  “It’s still Nicholas, Alex.”

*gasp*  Can this be?  A scene from my book?  You bet!  Be sure to follow the writing blog for more snippets from my book and other upcoming projects.  Tell your friends.  Tell the dog.  Tell the mailman.  Tell everyone!  But especially the puppy because I love puppies  ^^;;;

brichibiwritesthings:

O.K. So bookmarks are actually pretty spendy to have made, especially for the amount I want for our tables at conventions. But my wonderful partner gave me the idea of making business cards with my writing blog listed on it, for now, and then when the book comes out I can splurge for bookmarks and put links on where it can be purchased :)  This would hopefully gain followers at conventions, where I can talk about the book and tease at it, and the blog would have links of where the book can be purchased anyway  :)

So here’s what I’m thinking for the cards. The snippet on the back is from a crime scene in the book ^^  I thought it would be best to pick a crime scene of some sort to get people interested.

Thoughts?

Reblogging for advertising myself!  Be sure to follow the writing blog for more details  :)

Everything that can go wrong has gone far...

Here it is, guys.  Many thanks to Dawne Dominique for making such an amazing cover!  Along with the cover is a quick synopsis of the story so you know what to look forward to  :)

***

Everything that can go wrong has gone far beyond wrong for Matthew Sharpton.  After his beautiful fiancee decides to upgrade to a better man, Matthew is forced to move into the zero-star establishment of his parents’ basement. Roommates with his shattered dreams and a father that disapproves of his entire existence, Matthew is now jobless, womanless, and every other less you can think of.  The only thing he has going for him is a tiny pink bird he picked up at an animal auction.  But apparently, Matthew can’t even properly pick pets.  Instead of a bird he finds himself with a gorgeous, naked woman who seems to think that he’s her master.

“Treat me kindly,” she says, but the hidden message in the bottle whispers to Matthew, “…or else.”

Elsewhere, deep within the busy walls of city-tropolis, Detective Alex Sampson is enjoying the days of flipping on his sirens and watching traffic part for him as if he’s royalty.  He gets a call for a recent homicide and rushes to one of the finest condominiums in the city.  Unsurprisingly, no one is mourning the death of animal cruelty expert number one, Frank Marko.  After being shamed out of his career for participating in dog fights, his last chance for redemption — and good P.R. — rested at a prestigious animal charity auction.  With a promise of something “rare and exotic,” the punk rocker apparently got way more than he could’ve possible bargained for.  Alex finds him dead in his lavish home, the only clue to his demise a small bruise on his neck and the beautiful butterfly found on the corpse.

Alex turns to his friend and colleague “Nick-Nack” — it’s still Nicholas, Alex — for leads in regards to the butterfly.  There’s just one teeny, tiny, colossal problem.  Butterflies don’t bite, don’t sting, and this particular breed found on Marko’s body is extinct.  It’s been awhile since Alex has been in detention, but he swears that “extinct” is another way of saying “dead from now until forever more.”  On top of that, the body count grows higher and more grotesque by the day.

Isn’t being a detective grand?

*gaaaaaaaaaaasp*  GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[Book snippet] Treat Me Kindly

brichibiwritesthings:

Like how I’m calling it a book now?  ^^

Anyhow, I’ve signed the contract, which makes this official.  This is going to be a published book this year  :)

Here’s a bit of an interesting background which, when this book gets famous *fingers crossed* will probably make people laugh or disturb them.

This was a fanfic.

This was an unfinished alternate universe Naruto fanfic.  I’m sure the fic is still posted somewhere, too.  Naruto was a fox, Sasuke ended up taking him home, just… yeah.  The fic itself made it about five chapters, with some side chapters that were just for the characters to have smutty fun times.

This story is completely different from the fic.  The fic wasn’t a detective novel at all.  The only thing I kept from the fic is the first line in the story, the birds, and one of the characters that I had made up myself, and even that character has changed in which he has a mother and father, not just a father, and a closer relationship to the pet he gets.

So… yeah, it’s amazing what fanfiction can do, yeah?

Anyhow, the general synopsis of the book is this:

Detective Alex Sampson is working on a case where an ex-rockstar was found dead in his condo.  The strange part is, the only sign of him being hurt is a small wound on his neck and a butterfly that was found at the scene of the crime.  It looks like the victim was poisoned, except butterflies aren’t poisonous, and this particular butterfly is supposed to be extinct.

It turns out that there’s prestigious auctions going on where the rich and glamorous bid on rare animals.  The animals actually have the ability to turn human and are more than willing to be obedient pets… so long as they’re treated kindly.  When they’re not, things tend to take a turn for the brutal and gruesome.  But as Alex gets closer to the truth, it’s harder to place blame on the quote, unquote, “killers.”  On the one hand, killing people is absolutely wrong, but on the other hand these animals were pushed to the point of lashing out.

So whose to blame?

In this snippet I’m posting, Alex’s friend who works at the police station, Nicholas, has gotten into the auctions thanks to an ex-boyfriend who is part of that wealthy crowd.  He gets to take a dog home, and this scene shows exactly why you need to treat these animals with respect.

Enjoy!

Look guys, its a snippet from my book.  That’s right, my book!  It’s going to be a book!  And the back story of it’s creation reveals how much of a geek I really am  ^^;;;  don’t judge me Naruto was good once
