“Pardon me?”
“The kiss. It doesn’t have to count.”
Naoto looks at the girl sitting across from her. All sweet smiles and pigtails, Rise “Risette” Kujikawa is the picture perfect image of “girl.” She wears the uniform better than Naoto ever could, but is courteous enough not to point that out.
“What do you mean it does not have to count?”
Rise keeps the smile in place, answering the question with practiced ease, “The kiss, silly. It doesn’t have to count. Your first kiss should be special, so this one doesn’t have to count.”
“If it does not have to count, what was the point in doing it?” The logical frown is firm on her face.
“I just… I wanted to, you know? Sometimes girls just want to.” It’s not at all an honest answer, but she hopes it’ll suffice so she doesn’t have to go into the truth — ironic, she knows, since they’ve both had harsh lessons on the importance of truth.
“No, I do not know. People do things for a reason.”
“Well I had no reason. I just wanted to kiss you. But it doesn’t have to count, I know who you want it to count with.” Even if Naoto isn’t willing to say the name out loud, Rise knows who her first should belong to.
Naoto tries to keep the blushing at a minimum, but her cheeks don’t listen, “R-regardless, you should not assume that this kiss was meaningless.”
“Naoto-kun, I told you-“
“I mean it. This kiss… this was a good first kiss.”
She tries not to look too hopeful, but her voice is high and excited when she speaks, “Really? Well then, can we try for a second first kiss?”
The blush is worse the second time around, but it still makes for a good second first kiss.

So the lovely ladies Sarah Fong and Kris Lee did some fantastic Naoto and Rise cosplay pictures. I haven’t written any fandom related things in a long time, but this pic inspired me. Keep up the great work, ladies!
In case you missed it late last night, I wrote a Persona 4 headcanon thing after not having written headcanons in centuries :) Also be sure to check out the ladies I link to, they’re the ones who did the amazing cosplay.
I realized this today;
You know how the japanese version of P4 implies that Naoto is a closet-fan of the Sentai franchise and how the artbook says her Persona’s design is based on Kamen Rider?
Well, today I figured something out:
The Sentai Series that came 2000 was “Timeranger” (Adapted into: “Power Rangers: Time Force” in America). It’s Sixth Ranger was named “Naoto Takizawa”.
The Sentai Series that came 2001 was “Gaoranger” (Adapted into: “Power Rangers: Wild Force” in America). It’s Sixth Ranger commonly went by the name “Shirogane”.
Naoto’s name is a combination of two consecutive Sixth Rangers, both of which were lone-wolf type characters.
Just like Naoto herself is a lone-wolf type “Sixth Ranger” to the IT!

OMG WHY WOULD SOMEONE DO THIS?!
But, this is true, Kanji lost his father and Naoto lost both of her parents. Randomly, this brings up something that I didn’t like about the anime: they never mention Kanji’s fear of hospitals, not even once. I feel like that was an important plot point, and since they go to hospitals so often (especially later down the road) it would’ve been easy to slip it in there. They don’t mention his father being dead at all, and the whole, “He told me to be a man,” thing. Miss opportunity :(
Okay so what if there was a prom event and Kanji managed to find the courage to ask Naoto to go with him. And before they meet up he’s picturing her in all sorts of dresses, wondering if she’ll wear one. She doesn’t. But it’s okay because he’s blown away by how cute she looks in a suit.

Am I the only one who has always wondered why it is the issue of Naoto’s gender is never mentioned by the police once it is revealed? I do understand that Naoto is not the main character, but her shadow’s creation rested on that insecurity. I just do not believe it is realistic for her to have easily been accepted once outed for two reasons: one, the discrimination against females in that field and two, that she deceived all law enforcement! She lied to them.
I really should write a story that fleshes out the ramifications of the revelation of her sex.
This is a good point, if for nothing else, the fact that they didn’t like her because of her age you’d think this would be something else they could use to count her out. As it stands, it seems like they respected her just fine, even considering the fact that she was taken off the case technically. I remember Adachi mentioning that the police force was worried because she went missing, and then she’s at the police station when they lock Souji/Yu up, and even talks to the officers when they catch the culprit… both times.
So… yeah, this is kinda a good point.
And she didn’t just lie to them, she practically lied to the whole world. She was known as the “Detective Prince,” and even in the manga she’s called on to go to Inaba, so wouldn’t that cause all sorts of friction?
