How I feel about this character:  I love him.  I love him to pieces.  

All the people I ship romantically with this character:  Persona 4 is one of those rare fandoms where I can pretty much ship everyone with everyone.  I mainly ship him with Souji/Yu, but it’s not hard to ship him with Chie.  I’ve written fic of him and Naoto.  There’s a brilliant fic of him and Adachi.  The list goes on.

My non-romantic OTP for this character:  Teddie, mostly because I keep thinking of Teddie as a 5-year-old child, so I don’t romantic ship him with anyone (maaaaaybe Nanako when she gets older).  

My unpopular opinion about this character:  Yosuke and homophobia. Does he have an unfavorable opinion of Kanji?  In the beginning, sure, but it’s very short lived.  It happens in his dungeon (which no one ever seems to address the fact that everyone thought that place was weird, even Kanji himself) and the camping trip (which, again, no one seems to address the fact that by the next day they’re all hanging out together, if he were truly homophobic he still wouldn’t want to be near Kanji, at all, THAT’S what homophobia is, that’s not Yosuke). It doesn’t take long for him to joke around with him. Does Kanji think the jokes aren’t funny?  Sure, but if you pay attention to Yosuke, he jokes around with everyone.  That’s who he is.  And as the game goes on his friendship with Kanji is just as strong as his friendship with the others, to the point of him calling him dependable. What homophobic person would say that?  Persona 4 is all about growth and development, and everyone praises it for this, but somehow everyone has Yosuke stuck on, “Oh no don’t come near me I don’t want to catch the gay.”  

One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon:  I do kinda wish that he was a romance option.  I feel like they were so close to having it in the game.

My headcanons!

Who kills the bugs:  Kanji, but here’s the thing.  Naoto would keep the bugs if she could, like, any interesting ones, and Kanji would have to kill them before she noticed it.  However, he secretly hates bugs, they’re not cute at all they’re gross, but if he doesn’t kill them they’d be kept as pets.
Who hogs the sheets:  Naoto.  She also snuggles against Kanji.  He’s so tall that it’s really easy for her to treat him like an extra long pillow.  He doesn’t mind at all.
Who hates mornings:  Despite her detective lifestyle she loathes the morning, I mean, who really commits a crime that early?  And if they did, hell hath no fury than a Naoto Shirogane in the morning.
Who’s cranky before they had their coffee:  Naoto, hands down, and Kanji has it ready at sunrise.
Who’s doesn’t like their mother in law:  The only mother in law in this case would be Kanji’s mom, and Naoto adores her… when she’s not being utterly embarrassing about how she’s such a great match for Kanji, how she can’t wait to have grandchildren, and things of that nature.
Who drives:  I suppose canonly speaking Kanji never got his motorcycle license or whatever, but Naoto has a scooter in Golden, right?  However, Kanji is so determined in everything he does that Naoto would let him peddle his bike as hard as he could.
Who gets horny in awkward public places:  Kanji is always happy to see Naoto, always, and is always smiling and happy to be around her. This, much to Naoto’s dismay, is a turn-on, because he’s got a great smile and nice arms and says her name so nicely.  So yeah, it’s totally her, but she’ll never admit it, even if the Junes’ bathroom knows them rather intimately.
Who had a scene phase:  Kanji, for sure.
Who wore braces:  Kanji.
Who got bullied:  Kanji in canon.  People made fun of him.  At the same time people also gave Naoto a hard time.  So they both know what its like and both are there for each other when its one of those days.
Who collects ceramic elephants:  Neither, Naoto collects Neo-Featherman.  Kanji can make his own adorable collectibles. 

I love how Naoto thinks that its more feasible for her friends to try and plan an elaborate way to kill her than it is to be asked out on a date.

kanji’s greatest skill is his ability to go from ‘meh’ to ‘FUCK YOU’ to ‘hells yeah’ in 0.8 seconds.

You know when you haven’t checked in on that series you love in a while then something surfaces that kicks you in the face to remind you why that series is god?  Yeah.  Thanks Kanji  <3

Okay, I just want to put this out there: I’ve seen several instances of this attitude that parts of the P4 fandom on Tumblr are somehow “closed off” or like an exclusive club or something, and it’s really not. I made the friends I have by going to cons or just interacting with people as much as I can through here, and part of it is just staying visible in the fandom space and continuing to talk to people like they’re people. I’m also a pretty shy person; there were moments when I was anxious while sending someone a message, but I sort of just powered through it, because in the end, they’re all just another fan of this game. Sometimes I ended up not clicking super well with someone, but that’s cool, I just watch their work/headcanons/contributions from afar and that’s pretty neat.

That said, I’ll admit to being lucky in terms of having a group near me that’s all into P4 to some degree or another, but that was either happy coincidence (they’d all played it by the time I met them) or our own influence (“Hey we’re getting into this game here play it”) so! Also, my Investigation Team group of friends is pretty scattered all over the country, not all of us are in immediate physical proximity; the closest one to us is sakura-ouji and he still lives an hour out. So a lot of us being together only really happens at cons, I guess?

I dunno, man! If you’re ever at Fanime, AX, or Katsu, that’s where we all tend to congregate. But don’t just sit back and feel bad, chat us up! I know Tumblr’s a pretty limited space for that kind of thing but I do notice repeat commenters/usernames/etc. and while I haven’t had time to reply to all my messages as quickly as I used to, I still try to respond to them.

Hell yeah! 8D I didn’t mean for it to sound too self-depreciating or anything like that - just that like, I find the hangouts that you guys have to be super rad, and I wish I was a part of ‘em! You guys seem like you have a blast, and I’d love to cosplay with you all one day - unfortunately, I’m on the east coast, so I don’t ever get to any west coast cons… So it’s like “MAN, lookit these cool peeps! I will just have to spoop on them from afar”. (But I do hope we could meet one day, :D That would be awesome!)

Like what you mentioned, it’s hard to start that initial conversation with new people, so I figured this was a good time to do so.
