The Inner Workings of a Chibi.

Sharing because this is an interesting POV for a video game.  My wifey doesn’t game as much as I do and tends to just watch me as I go.  She’ll try sometimes, but sometimes she’ll reach a point where it gets too hard (like in this review) and hand me the controller and just not ask for it back afterwards.  Or if it’s something like Mario Galaxy she’s like, “no,” because she knows she’s not good at it (all the crazy gravity mechanics and all).

So she’s writing reviews from her POV, which is just as a person who watches someone play video games, which can be done if the game is interesting enough.  Like if a game is really interesting she’ll watch me, make comments as I play and react when I get hit real hard or die, and even help out (like if I’m trying to solve a puzzle).  That tells me that she’s interested.  If she’s not she’ll just be on the couch sewing.

So check out the review, I think it’s a really neat perspective to look at games with.

Lots of things to announce!

1.  My holiday story, which wasn’t accepted into the Dreamspinner holiday anthology last year, has been accepted by them as its own separate work after I fixed it up a bit  :)  So yay!  More things being published!

2.  A very fun interview via MM Good Book Reviews about Double Hue has been posted here.  This came complete with a 5 star review  ^^

More writing news from me :)

And another great review

brichibiwritesthings:

My first five star review on my new book!  Here it is:

The first thing that struck me about Double Hue is that it is written in present tense, which always makes it difficult for me to really get into a story. However, the writing itself was good and somewhere halfway through the prologue I had been drawn in thoroughly and felt the pain of loss as the story of a young man learning that his lover had been killed began to unfold.

It got even better.

As the story description says, Gable learns that his boyfriend, Avery, has been killed, but every time he dreams, it’s as if time resets and Avery is alive again. Most of the first half of the story occurs inside the mind of this confused young man as he tries to determine reality from dream, while also trying to deal with studies for his final year in university as well as the issue of ‘coming out’ to his parents.

The narrative is artfully done so that the reader lives within the thoughts of Gable, feeling his uncertainty and struggling to determine what is real. I soon lost any sense of what tense the story was written in and was completely caught up in this dilemma.

Everything becomes very real about halfway through and the action increases to a fever pitch. There were times that I wanted to yell at a character “Why don’t you…” or “Check the computer history to find out..”, but these minor frustrations just show how involved I had become as I read. The parents might have played a more active role, but the artistry put into how the primary characters deal with the conflict more than makes up for any lack of activity from peripheral characters.

I read the second half of this book in one sitting, ignoring all the other books I had on the go. It was that engrossing. Easy 4.5 stars for this one.

WHOO!  This is a great way to wake up on Christmas Eve!

brichibiwritesthings:

This review just made my life!

Huzzah for good reviews for the book.

Also, I should say this real quick while we’re on the subject of reviews:

1.  If you’re reading the book, please leave a review somewhere.  Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Goodreads.  Even if it’s just one sentence, even if it’s just a star ranking, the more reviews it gets the more noticeable it is.

2.  If you, or someone you know, is a reviewer, even if you just actively read and post reviews on Amazon, or on tumblr or a blog, let me know.  I have free copies I can give to reviewers  :)

Happy reading, everyone!

What’s Making Me Scream: Attack on Titan

brichibiwritesthings:

Something different for the writing blog, but I thought I would write a review for a series I’m currently watching.  Attack on Titan is as exciting as it is emotionally draining, but it’s definitely worth watching.  If I have time, I’d like to review series I’m watching, series I have watched, and things like that.  I’ve been watching more anime than I usually do lately in my free time, and this one was a good choice.

Series:  Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin)

General plot:  There are creatures called Titans who feed on humans.  No one knows where they came from or why they do what they do (although one episode mentions that they don’t actually need to eat humans, they choose to do so, which means they seem to be here to literally here to wipe out all of humanity).  What remains of the human race has built up numerous walls to protect themselves from the Titans.  Things have been peaceful for 100 years.

But…

(SPOILER WARNING!)

Probably the shiniest Zelda book you’ll ever see  :)
