You can be a princess. You can be a queen. You can even be a goddess. You can be anything you want. To love your cosplay is to love yourself.

My wifey finished the Storm dress this morning :) The head piece is in progress. SUPER EXCITED FOR NEW COSPLAY!
STORM! Mistress of the elements! At least my attempt with the wig I got last night so forgive my silly face ^^;;; I really hope I do her justice! Black headband will be upgraded to her actual head piece by the time the cosplay is done :)
Some pretty artses I did for a recent comic convention! You may have seen this (in form of prints) from a couple of my Tumblr posts, so here are ALLLL of them.
I had initially wanted to draw several of the X-Men in different seasons (I have Kitty Pryde slotted for Spring, and Jean Grey for Summer), and got stumped for a season that would best represent Ororo. When in doubt - ask the Internet - I posed the question to my Facebook fanpage followers. The answers were? Draw her in ALL the seasons XD
So here she is, Storm for all Seasons. I wanted to draw her for ages in an appropriately awesome setting because she is one awesome character - and I ended up splurging on four illustrations of her at once lol
I tried to insert some references of the weather in each seasons (rain for Spring, a summer thunderstorm in the Summer piece, wind for autumn etc).. nothing very out there but hopefully it’ll add something to the overall piece!
Thanks for viewing :) And should anyone want to own a piece (or four) - the prints are available at the following links:

Also, I just shipped off the first batch of prints orders today. They should arrive in about 2-3 weeks time, I believe. Thanks so much for the support, everyone!Spent all morning packing… 2nd batch of orders is going to the prints tomorrow (2/12/2014). Happy 2014 everyone!

Woooow look at all the Storms I can cosplay…
Fun story time! So that quote I posted from Whoopi Goldberg about Star Trek and seeing a black lady on T.V. who wasn’t a maid? Here’s my moment like that.
When I was a kid I watched a bunch of cartoons (when I was a kid, lol I still watch a lot of cartoons). Then I remember hearing about this new show called “X-Men.” I wasn’t big into comics at the time (just the occasional Sonic the Hedgehog one), but I just thought it looked like a cool show.
Then I saw Storm and flipped out.
I couldn’t believe she was black! And just as powerful as everyone else, and intelligent too! Before that the only black lady I remember seeing in my cartoons was the woman in Tom and Jerry that showed up sometimes like, “Thoooomas!” You never saw her face. Ever. You saw her from the waist down, and she carried a broom around and would like, swat him with it if he was acting up. That was about it. I mean there were black men like Fat Albert and stuff, and even some random sports cartoon with Michael Jordan (before Space Jam, it was some random sports superhero show?) and even MC Hammer had a cartoon (no joke, look it up). But a woman? A black woman? With powers too? Who would fight too?
I just stared at the T.V. for a long time.
I mean growing up, I didn’t really realize how much I wanted a black girl in my geekery until I saw Storm. I had this huge WOW moment, then kinda went, “… wow wait is this the only one in my geekery?” And it really was. Like I didn’t think about how that made me feel until that first episode when they’re in the mall and the Sentinels show up and she transforms into Storm, it was like, “Holy shit no way, no way! She’s not just a background character shopping at the mall?!” Then there was this moment of, “… wow this is the first time I have seen a black woman be something important in my cartoons.”
I think this is why I love Tiana so much (besides other reasons of her just being a great character). But now I’m old enough to appreciate how her presence effects people. Like now some kid is going to go into the Disney store and see her doll like, “WOW,” like I did with Storm all those years ago. Like now when the family goes to Disney world and sees the princesses, she’ll be there :) I mean I love all of the princesses, you know, but that just hits home. Like, “Hey sweetie, there’s one that looks like you, and she’s just as special as all the other ones."
O.K. sappy moment over now.

Oh man, so I remember in the 90s cartoon, that two episode arc where it’s an alternate timeline where they hook up, and at first I was like, “bwaaaaaaaaah?!” Then I was like, “… omg omg omg what is this feeling?” I didn’t realize that was the feeling of an OTP blooming inside of me.
I was happy to see this sentiment from comics writer Len Wein which matches mine pretty closely. I badly want to see more diversity in Superhero comics, but if you make that the entire *point* of a character, that’s a recipe for a 2-dimensional, uninteresting character.

I remember being a kid and seeing the X-Men cartoon on T.V. I couldn’t believe me eyes. There, on TV, was an animated black woman. A super heroine. Who was smart. Powerful. Just… it was so cool! The only black characters in cartoons I can think of was like, Fat Albert, and Bebe’s Kids, and Susie from Rugrats, and the lady in Tom and Jerry whose legs you saw, and… I could be missing some because these are things I watched but I can’t think of very many (I guess Patty Mayonnaise from Doug too)
And here was Storm, with powers, and just as capable as all the boys, and seen as a queen by some, and later became the leader of the Morlocks, and just… it was a huge deal to me. And reading this quote it’s like, this is so true. It wasn’t like, “that black chick from X-Men,” it was, “Storm.” I want my characters to be like that in my stories, not “that one gay guy” or “the black woman” but just know by their names :) The joint book series my partner and I have is full of a bunch of diverse characters, and I hope we accomplish this same thing.
