Book snippet: In which parents are really just trying to understand, honest

brichibiwritesthings:

In my upcoming book, “Double Hue,” Gable Peterson has to tell his parents about his boyfriend, Avery Blair.  Avery’s parents didn’t take the news so great, so they’re not too thrilled about telling Gable’s parents.  Fortunately, they seem to take it well!  Now… they just need to adjust to the idea  ^^;;;

To all the parents who are supportive of your children, thank you so much, it means the world to us.  And for those kids out there who think your parents won’t get it… sometimes, they just need some time.  Sometimes, they really are trying.  Yes, being gay should be accepted, but we live in a society where it’s not seen as “the norm.”  So your parents may need some time  :)

Good morning, everyone.  My partner in crime has posted the first chapter to our upcoming book, “Hunters: Seeking the Storyteller,” on her website.  Follow the link to check it out.  Keep in mind that its not edited yet (that should be in September) but this will give you a feel for the book  :)

Check it out, everyone!  It’s a preview to another book I have coming out.  If you want more up to date details this book actually has a tumblr here.  Happy reading!

So how long did this sequel take?

brichibiwritesthings:

It surprised him at first when Avery brought over his old Game Station Box a couple of months ago.  “Playstation 2,” Avery said in a wonderfully irritating tone of voice as he hooked up the cords to Gable’s T.V.

“And why is it at my place?”

“Because my new roommate is an alcoholic and I need to replay this game.”

“Replay?”  Wasn’t the point of gaming to play something new?  Weren’t they on the fifth Game Playing Box thing by now?

“Yes.  They announced the sequel this summer, so I need to refresh my memory.”

“And when will you have time to play?”

“I dunno, whenever.”

Whenever has become scattered weekends when Avery isn’t reading lines, or if they’re not busy making Gable’s bed complain about boy on boy sex.  Gable would much prefer sexual activities over watching the same damn cutscene for the fifth time.  He rolls his eyes, “The weapons still make no sense.”

“You know, you asked me about the keyblade when I wore my Kingdom Hearts shirt back when we first met.”

“It still doesn’t make sense four years later.  It also means that you played this game four years ago.”

Avery sighs.  Gable insists on having this conversation every time this game comes up.  “I told you, they announced a sequel.  I need to replay it.”

“It took them four years to announce a sequel?”

“Longer than that.  I played this back in high school.” Before Gable can respond Avery glares at him, “Don’t.”

“Don’t what?”

“Don’t start your rant about not understandin’ how I can wait so long for a sequel.”

“I also can’t understand how you’ve played this before and have lost four times.”

Fortunately, he’s at a point in his relationship where Avery’s little frustrated growls are sexy, not intimidating.  Still, he raises his hands in defense and apologizes for his comment.  He waits for Avery to face the screen and start his battle before he smirks and says,  “So how can you kill something with a key?”

Avery lets out his loudest, most annoyed sigh.  Why is it that discussing video games with his boyfriend feels like he’s presenting a complex thesis for a boring, numerical major that he doesn’t have?  “It’s not technically killing, per se, it’s more… releasing the hearts.”

“Uh huh.  Hearts.  Kingdom Hearts, right?”

“I’m so done with you right now,” Avery mutters.

In which the couple in my upcoming book “Double Hue” consists of a gamer boy and a non-gamer who can’t understand why “Kingdom Hearts 3” being announced is a big deal.

So how many of us have had conversations like this in regards to video games?  Oh by the way check out more writing fun times here:

It’s a simple thought that fuels the rapid beats of his heart. Run. His feet move on their own accord, smashing through fallen leaves and wrinkled branches. Crunch. Crunch. His throat hurts and the air is hot, his breathes coming out in harsh, hard wheezes. He keeps going. He has to keep going.

“Treat Me Kindly” first round edits

brichibiwritesthings:

In the process of editing the book, hoping to have it done early next week EVEN WITH DETOUR BEING THIS WEEKEND!  Yep.  I’m crazy.  I know.

But I’m in the second chapter already, that’s good right?  Here’s my favorite quote so far from Alex, the main character, to his friend Nicholas in regards to them ever having a chance at dating:

“Nick-Nack I’ve told you that if you grow breasts and stop standing in line at midnight for hard to pronounce video games I’ll give you a shot.”

We’re in the first round of book edits!  Follow the blog for more information :)

[Story snippet] Double Hue

brichibiwritesthings:

Check it out, guys!  I’m working on a new story before “Treat Me Kindly” gets published!  Some may say I’m crazy, but… well I am crazy, but this was actually done some time ago and I’m just editing/snazzing it up before sending it to publishers.

This is a gay romance story that suddenly turned novel length (oops?)  It’s kinda got a crime thriller vibe, with some supernatural elements mixed in and a touch bit of horror?  There’s a brief description below followed by a snippet of the two main boys in the story and how they interact with one another  :)

Warnings:  Geekery, cute boys doing cute boy things, me trying to tempt you with my writing more

Brief synopsis:  When something tragic happens in your life you want nothing more than to close your eyes, go to sleep, and make all of the pain go away.  For Gable Peterson it’s a little more complicated than that.  When detective Maurice Ashford shows up at his door with news that his boyfriend, Avery Blair, has been found dead, Gable is left devastated.  Gable does the same thing he did when his grandfather died back when he was a little boy; he closes his eyes and imagines a world where his loved one is still alive.

Only, when Gable wakes up, he’s surprised to see that Avery is actually still alive!

Gable discovers something very peculiar about himself.  There’s a place inside of his head where another Gable Peterson exists. This other Gable tells him that he has the power to go back and keep Avery from dying.  Of course, Gable doesn’t believe anything that he’s hearing.

Until Avery dies for the second time.

Shortly after, Gable finds himself back at day one.  Now he’s more determined than ever to save his boyfriend.

But is it worth the hardship he’s about to face?

This isn’t just some accident that happens to Avery.  Gable’s boyfriend is murdered in cold blood by someone who the media has called “The Horrific Homophobe” or “The Double H Murderer.”  This killer roams the streets of Minneapolis, kidnapping gay men who turn up dead in a week’s time.  They’re not just brutally killed, there are derogatory words written all over their bodies in a terrifying display of the hell they had suffered through during the week.  Oddly enough, along with words like FAGGOT and QUEER and HOMO are compliments of nice eyes or beautiful smile and other charming words that have no business being anywhere near such hatred.  Gable suddenly finds himself tracking down a killer, but can he save Avery in time?

[Treat Me Kindly Snippet] It’s still Nicholas, Alex

brichibiwritesthings:

Hello dear followers.  In case you missed it (though you probably didn’t because I keep spazzing about it) I am releasing a book.  It’s an urban supernatural crime thriller full of strange deaths that have been happening in the city where the only clue tends to be some sort of animal, or part of an animal (bird feathers, for example).  Today, I want to post a small snippet from the book.  Currently, it’s being assigned an editor, then that whole process can begin  :)

This is a small scene between two main characters:  Alex Sampson (the detective in charge of the strange murder case) and Nicholas Ryker (geeky friend extraordinaire)

Warnings for this snippet:  Friendly banter

Story up to this point:  A rock star has been found dead and the only clue is a small butterfly.

***

“Any word Nick-Nack?”

“It’s still Nicholas, Alex.”

Nicholas ‘Nick-Nack’ — it’s still Nicholas, Alex — Ryker sits at his computer, several windows open and showing different pictures of butterflies.  His eyes scan each box, closing the ones he doesn’t need and opening up five more in a matter of seconds.  At least, it would be seconds, if not for the outdated technology of the city’s finests.  What kind of officers of the law are they when they can’t even afford decent internet?

“Isn’t that it?”  Alex points at one of the butterflies on the screen, standing behind Nicholas now.

“No,”  Nicholas says, “That’s not the right shade of purple in its wings.”

“Looks like it to me.”

“Well it’s not.”

“How can you tell?”

Nicholas spins around in his computer chair to look up at Alex. He’s wearing a pair of large, black glasses, the thick frames wrapped around eyes that are bright like green Christmas lights.  His hair is a couple of different shades like browning autumn leaves, the strands sticking up thanks to a handful of hair gel.  A black and white striped shirt covers his thin build, tucked into a pair of crisp blue jeans.  He doesn’t look like he’s a part of the police force, his skin is smooth and the perfect shade of baby pink unlike Alex’s rough texture.  His hours are spent on the computer and he doesn’t have the ‘luxury’ of investigations, crime scenes, and living on energy drinks and packaged Japanese noodles.

“It’s too light, Alex,”  Nicholas says, voice laced with disdain, “God, didn’t you learn basic colors in elementary school?”

“Yeah.  Red blue and whatever the hell,”  then Alex smirks, “I know how you know the difference.  It’s because you’re-”

“Gay.  Yes.  Yes I am gay and I know colors.”

Alex attempts to ruffle Nicholas’ hair and fails, the gel forcing him to smash the molded hair down like a crispy pancake.  It springs back up as soon as Alex moves his hand away, “Damn, how do you get your hair like that?”

Nicholas smiles, “It’s a secret amongst us gay men.  If you join the club I’ll let you know.”

“Nick-Nack I’ve told you that if you grow breasts and stop standing in line at midnight for hard to pronounce video games I’ll give you a shot.”

Nicholas sighs and says it again.  “It’s still Nicholas, Alex.”

*gasp*  Can this be?  A scene from my book?  You bet!  Be sure to follow the writing blog for more snippets from my book and other upcoming projects.  Tell your friends.  Tell the dog.  Tell the mailman.  Tell everyone!  But especially the puppy because I love puppies  ^^;;;
