The Inner Workings of a Chibi.

Interrupting my fandom nonsense to say HAPPY PRIDE from the ladies of magnifiqueNOIR: aka, my black queer magical girls!

You can get these prints (and more) HERE!

And you can get the book HERE!

There’s a city. It’s like most other cities. Buildings. People. Monsters who can destroy sidewalks by vomiting acid onto the ground, and an elite group of black, queer, magical girls who work to put those monsters in their place.

See? Just like most other cities.

Bree Danvers would’ve compared it to a video game, maybe a cartoon or comic book, except black girls are rarely the heroines of the story. But there her heroine stood, plus sized and wonderful, rocking a dazzling amount of purple and defeating monsters with galactic sparkles. Galactic Purple, that was her name, and soon, Bree was joining her on a magical adventure full of transformations and after school battles to defend a city like most other cities.

And soon, others would join them, and each one would be magical in their own way… give or take a few bumps on the acid covered ground.

So I got to write about LGBT characters in video games for WatchMojo.com and the video got posted today. I’m super happy that I got to write the script for it… and super amused/not even remotely surprised at comments like, “Why not do top 10 Straight Characters next,” because… it’s Youtube, but kudos to the amount of, “Please to be shutting up,” responses to said comments.

Anyhow, here’s the video! Also, there’s some spoilers (not too many), but just wanted to throw the warning out there.

where is paper mario vivian???

Reblogging because Vivian is a great choice, too!  Definitely an honorable mention in my heart <3

For those who don’t know, in the original Japanese version of the game, Vivian is transgender and identifies as female even if characters say that she’s male. This isn’t in the English version.

A big factor in our choices is user votes, too.  People can actually vote on who should make the top ten and I was happy to see so many choices, and even happier that it was tough to narrow it down to ten :)  So even if she didn’t make the list she definitely deserves a shout out.

that’s strange because the french version clearly shows that she wants to be refereed to a girl but her sisters don’t want to D:

Yeah, I should’ve said “US” version, our version had that part removed.

Alsoooo, I know you're involved in the LGBT community and stuff and I was just curious on your opinion of like, main characters who are transgender (not sure if I'm using the right term??) or something of the like. The main character of my 2nd series (sequel to the ones I'm writing now) is gonna be a female who wants to be a male, but it's in a fantasy/medieval-ish setting, so I don't know how I'm gonna work that out...xP

I would love to see more transgender main characters.  There’s a series that’s supposed to come out on the CW with a lead transgender character, which I am cautiously optimistic about (cautious because CW is hit or miss).  We actually have a trans character coming up in our book series.  We plan on doing a lot of research going in, because we don’t want to misrepresent anyone.  We have a good friend who is actually in transition right now (male to female) and she’s been more than willing to talk to us when we reach our character.  The last thing I want to do is misrepresent an underrepresented group.

This is a random anime example, but look into Grell from Black Butler.  It’s Victorian era, but Grell is canonly a man who wants to be a woman.  The creator did interviews with her characters and Grell actually said something along the lines of thinking God made a mistake in making “her” a man, and Grell always refers to herself as a lady.  She also wants a family and children.  Of course, the 1800s don’t really have the resources for such a thing (I think?  I’m fairly certain they don’t, but that doesn’t mean that trans people didn’t exist, or maybe even extreme measures were taken?  I think you can pull this off in your book, you just need to do research).

Madoka Magica final form. Finished today!

Wow I’m a bad wifey I forgot to reblog this.  My wifey made this for our friend!  I really love when she makes costumes for her  :)  This lovely lady is transitioning from male to female, and my wifey has been great with making her costumes.  I guess, last year, she wanted to commission someone but they told her no because of her being trans  >.<  Fortunately, my wifey could care less and was like, “I’ll make it for you.”  First was Shadow Yukiko from Persona 4 (which I’ve posted before) and now it’s Madoka’s final form from Madoka Magica  :)

I think it’s important to cosplay who you want, regardless of gender and everything else, and I think it’s great to have a wifey who believes that too and who will make costumes for whoever  :)
