Happy New Year, magical ones! I haven’t updated in FOREVER! The end of 2017 was full of conventions back to back so I didn’t have much time.

I wanted to say thank you for a really great launch of my book magnifiqueNOIR! It’s been about 3 months and the reception for it has been great! I’m gonna be pushing it even harder this year and I hope to have (at least) the rough draft for book two done by the end of the year! I’ll be approaching bookstores about carrying the book and, of course, I’m always looking for reviewers and places to feature it!

In case you want a taste of the Black Girl Magic going on with my queer magical girls, you can check them out here:

Thanks everyone, and don’t forget! You are magical :)

RELEASE DAY IS HERE!

This time last year I was launching the Kickstarter for this little idea I had about a group of black, queer, magical girls. While the Kickstarter didn’t end up panning out, I told myself that I wouldn’t give up on the idea and that I’d finish the story and release it someday.

Today is that day.

“magnifiqueNOIR” is here and I am so thrilled to be presenting it to everyone!

If you’ve already preordered the book through the Indiegogo or our Etsy shop, you will be receiving it very soon! I got confirmation from UPS that the 15 boxes (yes, 15!) will be at my house this Friday! After that, I’ll be autographing all of them and then giving my post office a nightmare (just kidding, we already talked to them and came up with a plan).

If you haven’t ordered the book yet, now is your chance! Not just the physical copy, but the eBook as well! So here’s Bri’s somewhat comprehensive list of ways to have a little bit of black girl magic in your home, on your Kindle, and more important: in your hearts (boo Bri that was cheesy).

  1. The super special awesomely autographed copy! Follow the link here to get a physical copy of the book autographed by yours truly! We have a limited amount of numbers before we order batch #2 of the book in time for fall season conventions!
  2. The amazing Amazon physical copy! While it doesn’t come with my autograph, it is discounted for a limited time, and hey, free shipping through Prime is always nice!
  3. The magically fantastic eBook copy! Because who doesn’t want their electronic reading device to come packed with black girl magic?
  4. Conventions! I’ll have a list of them up soon, but this Saturday, I’ll be at MSP Fall ComiCon at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds, so if you’re local, you can come and get a copy of the book from me in person!

Now comes the next part: promotion. If you are absolutely in love with the book, talk about it online! Use the hashtag #magnifiqueNOIR to share your love for these girls. Take pictures of your book/eBook, share this post everywhere, and definitely, most definitely, definitely definitely definitely LEAVE A REVIEW when you’re done reading! Let’s show the world that black girls with magical powers are spectacular!

As always, thank you from the bottom of my chubby black queer girl heart for all the support. When I came up with this idea last March, I had no idea it would grow so much. There may have been some hiccups along the way, but we’re here now, and you all are truly magical :)

Hey there, magical ones! I have an AMAZING UPDATE for everyone. Here’s a sneak people on how the inside of the book is going to look. Full color illustrations from various artists, fun character profiles, one-shot comic pages, it’s gonna be an extravaganza of black girl magic!

There’s a city. It’s like most other cities. Buildings. People. Monsters who can destroy sidewalks by vomiting acid onto the ground, and an elite group of black, queer, magical girls who work to put those monsters in their place.

See? Just like most other cities.

Bree Danvers would’ve compared it to a video game, maybe a cartoon or comic book, except black girls are rarely the heroines of the story. But there her heroine stood, plus sized and wonderful, rocking a dazzling amount of purple and defeating monsters with galactic sparkles. Galactic Purple, that was her name, and soon, Bree was joining her on a magical adventure full of transformations and after school battles to defend a city like most other cities.

And soon, others would join them, and each one would be magical in their own way… give or take a few bumps on the acid covered ground.

AND WE’RE LIVE!!! The Kickstarter for the first book in my magical girl book series is ready to go! The series focuses on a group of black, queer, magical girls who save the world with sparkles, sass, and fabulous hair. The first book, “I Am Magical,” is the start of the adventure, and will be a full-length novel with full colored picture inserts and mini one-shot comics. There are all sorts of fun early bird extras, exclusives, freebees, add-ons, tiers, stretch goals… THE WORKS!

The Kickstarter is HERE! Thank you to everyone who pledges and/or shares the magic :)

UPDATE! We just crossed $2,500! THANK YOU SO MUCH, EVERYONE!!! Keep sharing, keep promoting, keep using #magnifiqueNOIR, keep doing everything! Let’s bring these girls to life <3 <3 <3

What does it mean to be magical?
Who decides who is magical?
What does it take to be magical?
Am I magical?

Are we?

It starts out simple enough: there’s monsters roaming around the city, and there’s girls ready to save the day. They balance their normal lives with their magical lives, and attempt to follow the magical girl formula of proper transformations, elegant attacks, and stunning poses. But even the most dedicated magical girl begins to ask questions. Where are the monsters coming from? Where did their powers come from? Were they the first ones to be appointed as magical girls, because these transformation tools feel well-worn, as if there’s some history behind them.

Is it worth seeking answers to these questions, or is it better to follow the status quo?

The magnifiqueNOIR website is NOW LIVE! Head on over and explore everything the site has to offer. Merchandise, book snippets, character models, convention appearances, and more.

A bunch of stuff to talk about this morning!  We got some more “Seeking the Storyteller” art.  We got another excerpt you can check out.  And there’s an event where you can get the ebook for 99 cents.  You read that right, 99 cents!  For Mother’s Day weekend “Seeking the Storyteller” is on sale, so now is a great time to get it if you haven’t done so already!

Now, onto the fanart.  This piece of fanart is by the extremely talented Sean Iredale, who we met along with Tyler Hansen during Wizard World. This is Atticus, a villain who is whispered about in the first book who plays a major part throughout the series.  Sean really captured his scary epic power here.

Suddenly he was racing down the hallway, pushing open a set of large, double doors. Hanzo’s back was to him as he helped a young girl walk through a hidden passage in the wall. “Just go!” He screamed to her, “Your mother and I will catch up, I promise!”

But he had broken that promise.

Hanzo had never caught up and neither did the girl’s mother. Haven could now feel the choking sting of sadness against the back of his throat, could taste the regret, the anger, the fear. He knew that these feelings were coming from his dragon, but they were so strong that they gnawed at his stomach as if they were his own. He was the one who couldn’t protect his friends and family from this man, this man he did and did not know. This man, this Atticus, who floated above everything as the entire area crumbled around him. He could hear him laughing, the sound reverberating through his mind and his entire body.

THIS WEEKEND is the ONLY time you can get a copy of the ebook for 99 cents, so if you’re looking for a good supernatural story to read, now is the time!

SPREAD THE WORD!  It’s a special weekend sale for Mother’s Day.  Our book is only 99 cents for the entire weekend!  Now is a really good time to snag a copy and, as always, please leave a review to let us know what you think  <3

Reblogging for the night crew.  Remember, you can get our book for just 99 cents this weekend!

So we had an artist do a sketch of one of the characters from “Seeking the Storyteller.” This is actually her look from the second book, which is in the works, but he captured her style perfectly. Her name is Katalynne Cove and she works for Randall Fagan, one of the Hunters in the story.

Here is the picture and an excerpt from her debut in the first book. Thanks goes to Chad Jasper of Freaky Atomic Robot Zombies Studios, whose website is here: http://www.farzstudios.com/MAIN/FREAKY_MAIN.html

“He was cleared of those charges,” Katalynne said, remembering the pointless mess she had to deal with a couple of months ago. Three dead bodies, two of which were students on campus, with the same evidence of a brutal sword attack but no proof that the sword belonged to her boss. “In fact, I believe you were in the courtroom at the time.”

“Doesn’t mean Randall Fagan isn’t a psychotic killer. The public has seen the pictures. There are bodies and sightings of him during the night in different neighborhoods. Just because the police can’t link the bodies doesn’t mean he’s not responsible.”

Katalynne rolled her eyes, disinterest in anything the woman had to say. “And I suppose you believe in his partner, Bigfoot, as well?”

Liza ignored the jest and kept pushing. “How about you, Ms. Cove? What exactly do you do for him that pays your bills? You left a highly lucrative job as a personal assistant for one of the leading law firms in the state to work for this man? What does he pay you for?”

“I pick up his dry cleaning.”

Character Interview: Randall Fagan

huntersseries:

Good morning everyone, today our publisher has finally revealed their fanclub which can get you access to special items concerning our book and many others.  As part of this, an interview with one of our main characters: Randall Fagan is on the site!

Today I have the pleasure of interviewing Randall Fagan, a certified Hunter!  Mr. Fagan, thank you for meeting with me!

Really, you don’t need to be that formal.  You can just call me Fagan.  I don’t use Randall, you can think of it as a… secret identity thing.

Ahahaha, sorry about that, I’ll just call you Fagan from now on.  Now, can you explain what it is that you do?  What is a Hunter, exactly?

I would say it’s like a police force, but I’m going to get in trouble for that.  So let’s just go with we’re the people who hunt down the monsters and demons that people don’t want to acknowledge exist.

So you’re saying that demons and monsters actually exist?  Come on, you must be joking!

Check out this interview with one of our characters!

Are you saying that demons and monsters actually exist?  Well yes, yes they do.  Character interview from our very own Randall Fagan!
